Posted April 25, 20232 yr Lying Season Posted: April 24th, 2023 | Author: Tommy Lawlor With the draft just days away, there are all kinds of interesting reports floating around. One or two might be true, but most are items being fed to the media by people with agendas. First, let me say that Tony is a friend. We get together every year in Mobile to talk football and Led Zeppelin. You won’t meet a bigger Zep fan than Tony. When it comes to football, he’s connected to scouts, but also a lot of agents. This feels like a nugget from JSN’s agent to try to get his client to go as high as possible. The Eagles are at 10. They could use a WR. They also are a team that people pay attention to. Link the Eagles to your guy and it might help convince another team to take JSN early. I think Carter going to Seattle at 5 is being pushed either by Seattle or Carter’s agent. We’ll start with the Seattle angle first. They already have a pair of first round picks, but still might want to move down to add another pick or two. There might not be a player they love at 5. They could move back and still possibly get a QB for the future. At the least, they’d like to have the option to move back. Carter’s agent is Drew Rosenhaus. We know he is a master manipulator. Rosenhaus wants Carter to go as high as possible. He’s trying to create a favorable situation for his client. Teams 6-10 could wait for Carter to fall to them, but if they really want him, go up to 5 and get him. Rosenhaus once called his client, Willis McGahee, during the draft. McGahee had a horrible knee injury and there was a question about how far he’d fall. Rosenhaus knew Buffalo was interested in McGahee. Right before their pick, Rosenhaus called his client. The Bills front office saw McGahee on TV talking on the phone. They assumed he was talking to another team. Buffalo took him right there. Rosenhaus’s ploy worked perfectly. I don’t know anything for sure, but I do think Carter will make it to 10. I just don’t see the teams ahead of the Eagles being willing to take a chance on him. Charlie is a grinder. I would tend to believe this stuff since he’s not going on TV and saying this. He also doesn’t have a gazillion followers. That still doesn’t mean the stuff is true, but I give it more validation than other reports/rumors. I can see Howie being willing to trade up for Carter. Howie loves premium talent and Carter certainly is that. I’ve talked for a while now about Van Ness and how the Eagles could have interest in him. I know some of you hate the idea of taking him, but Van Ness is big, athletic and a gifted pass rusher. He would make a lot of sense. You might have to learn to love him. There are still a couple of days to go so be prepared for more rumors that involve or affect the Eagles. This is an odd nugget. I’m not a huge fan of Johnson at 10 for the Eagles. If the Cards took him at 3…yikes. That would be terrible value. We keep hearing Arizona wants to move back if they can pull that off, Johnson would make more sense. Jonathan Gannon saw the value of OL in his time in Philly. Kyler Murray needs a good OL. I’d love for Johnson to go before 10. That would push another player down to the Eagles. ***** I like this. Scott is a terrific player. I’ve got him rated in the 3rd round. Other people have him going late and I just don’t get it. He’s big, athletic, skilled and experienced. I’m not sure what’s not to like. I’d love to see the Eagles take Scott. ***** Jackson showed real promise back in 2021. He’s big, athletic and showed good potential as a receiver. Jackson is healthy once again and will need to really battle to have a shot to win a roster spot. http://igglesblitz.com/2023/04/lying-season/
April 25, 20232 yr Seems like the cliched thing to say Howie will trade up for Carter when they traded up for same position at same school last year. I don't think he will this time
April 26, 20232 yr Lot of smoke, lot of mirrors. And it is only a day now until we find out what’s what and who is going where. Thank god.
