April 29, 20232 yr Don't know much about him because I didn't pay much attention to this year's CFB season but can he cover?
April 29, 20232 yr Based on his youtube "tape". The kid plays fast. A bit undersized by the looks of it but hes rated highly for a reason. Always has a big smile and seems very confident. I feel good about this pick.
April 29, 20232 yr He looked a bit small to me too when watching his clips. But, he was going up against some big a** OLineman.

April 29, 20232 yr 2 hours ago, judunno said: Damn good against the run though despite it Based on everything I've read, defending the run is his greatest strength, not rushing the passer. He reacts quickly and has freakish speed to keep anything from getting to the outside. If he continues to improve as a pass rusher, he'll be a clone of Haason Reddick.
April 29, 20232 yr What nobody seems to be talking about: https://www.on3.com/college/georgia-bulldogs/news/kirby-smart-details-why-leadership-is-nolan-smith-best-trait/ I don't know about the rest of you, but I've felt the team has been missing a true leader on defense since Jenkins left. We have had some great players on defense in that span and guys that are good examples, but we just haven't had "that guy" that embodies the defensive mentality and keeps that unit motivated. Hurts is a great leader for the team as a whole and clearly the offense, but you can't really have your QB fixing your defense's "problems" when things aren't going well. I've been hoping Dean would fill that role now that he's likely to start, but feel even better that the team is getting another natural leader. You never want to lose good players like we did in Hargrave, Edwards, CJGJ, White, and even Epps, but I'm still pretty excited about the additions we made and the opportunities players like Dean and Blankenship are positioned to get. I'm very excited to see who emerges as that defensive leader, I've felt we've been lacking.

He has a good pressure rate as well, it just wasn’t his main role.

They really liked the leadership and character of guys they've been drafting recently. DeVonta Smith, Dickerson, Hurts, the GA players...guys from winning teams who also everyone they know says they are good leaders. Completely agree on defense. I think Graham is a leader but he's more the vocal hype guy not quite the same leader Jenkins was. Nakobe Dean has been praised a lot for leadership, his teammates said he was the leader of that GA defense.
April 30, 20232 yr Nolan says he models his game after Von Miller. If he plays like that this defense will be good for a long time.

Not a ton of production in college but there are reasons for that. He’s got the tools and he’s in a good spot to help him develop.

I saw him as Reddick replacement before the draft. Thought he would be gone in mid 1st. Amazed and happy we got him. He is our LB for a next decade if he stays healthy. With our monster DTs, he should be clean to outperform. Looking forward to his immediate contribution next year.
April 30, 20232 yr Watching the Smith/Carter press conference, I gotta say, Smith seems to be everything you can want from a player.....I hope that the Carter/Dean/Smith/Davis grouping will not only be special this year, but for years to come.

He seems incredibly mature and a natural leader. Dean and Davis where at his house at the draft. Seems like a guy with a high work ethic. If he lives up to his potential he could become a dominant player and I can only assume playing with a guy who is a nonstop worker like Hurts can only make him better too.

Smith took over for Dean as the leader of the Dawgs this year. His leadership and maturity I'm sure was one of the big reasons the Eagles picked him, especially as it can help Carter tremendously.

May 1, 20232 yr This kid has not only the athletic ability and fundamentals, but is highly intelligent and a natural born leader. Was an amazing weekend overall by the Eagles org and Howie.
May 4, 20232 yr He is going to have to work on his technique and foot work. Evan Neil did a number on him. But he does have a lot of upside.

He'll likely put on some weight with pro trainers and play at 245-250 which lines him up to the playing weight on a Von Miller. I have a feeling many teams are going to regret letting this kid drop to 30.

I have a feeling many teams are going to regret letting this kid drop to 30. Just his ability to take on offensive linemen that weigh 60+ more lbs than him and just completely stonewall them at the point of contact (vs the run) is impressive enough, then he tops it by getting off the block as well. Pretty amazing considering his size.
