Posted April 28, 20232 yr In the 2021 off-season, Howie sent Carson Wentz to Indianapolis and, by merit of the stipulations, earned a 2022 first round pick (16th overall). Howie dealt that 16th overall pick to New Orleans for 18th overall in 2022 and a 2023 first round pick. Howie then sent 18th overall in 2022 (and a 3rd round pick) to Tennessee for AJ Brown and drafted Carter with the 2023 first he earned in the New Orleans swap. Talk about a master class of GM hustle.
April 28, 20232 yr I’ve been one of Howie’s most vocal haters over the years but in the last couple of years he’s completely turned my views around. I’m very very glad that Howie is here and is our GM.
April 28, 20232 yr And let's not forget that it all started two years ago when he got the Dolphins' first round pick in 2022 while still being able to draft D. Smith. It's remarkable how he turned this franchise around after Carson's fiasco.

April 29, 20232 yr I think being forced out of power with Chip Kelly gave Howie the time to reflect and gain new perspective. I think he's been crushing it ever since. Even Wentz wasn't a bad pick. He was lights out at first, he just digressed after coming back from injury, which wasn't exactly Howie's fault.
April 29, 20232 yr What Howie has done has been remarkable. He didn't really mess up on Wentz, it's just Wentz was never the same after his injury and seeing Nick Foles win the Super Bowl.

Absolutely, without Carson's 2017, we don't own two Lombardi's right now, only one. Howie's moves to get him in the 2016 draft were pretty remarkable, too. I hope that, and Carson's 2017, don't get forgotten because of how things went after that knee injury and Saint Nick's historic run through the playoffs.

Um...I hate to break this to you and all...but we lost in February and only have one Lombardi.

We own the real Lombardi in 1960 and his namesake trophy. So we own Two Lombardi's. The only team in NFL history, past, Present and future that can ever make that claim.
April 30, 20232 yr Howie turned Chip Kelly screwups into a Super Bowl win and his own mistakes into a powerhouse team.
April 30, 20232 yr A lie goes around the world twice before the truth puts its pants on. Jalen Carter did not flee the scene. The passenger in his car called 911. Carter went towards the car to see if anyone could be helped. The police arrived. They had no reason to suspect any alcohol with Carter. They talked to him and then he left when they said he could go. https://www.dawgscentral.com/blogs/entry/350-dawgscentral-exclusive-carter’s-attorney-says-evidence-disproves-previous-reports-that-ex-uga-tackle-fled-scene/ Stop the slander against Carter. Its shows that you are a bad person, not him. Check the freaking internet for once. There is a disgustingly large section of the population who assume people like Carter "belong in jail" without due process or that they are "all bad guys" Stop feeding them. Stop letting them poison you.

There’s other issues here apparently he was refusing any interviews from any team outside of 10. There was his workout that he couldn’t even finish. There are some red flags here and that not getting into the fact they were possibly racing. I remember Jerome Brown and how speeding in his car cost him his life and his nephew as well. Pelle Lindberg and his car accident. This incident should not be taken lightly as his teammate and someone connected to the coaching staff lost their lives. I hope Carter can truly learn from this incident and protects himself from making a mistake that could cost him financially in the future or worse his own life or someone else again.

I like the narrative but this is not really accurate. You are not valuing the 19th overall pick in 2022 that we sent to Saints in that trade as well. We did not pick up an extra first rounder - it was essentially a trade down of one 1st rounder + pushing out another 1st rounder and receiving a bunch ancillary picks for it. Ignoring the low round picks, easiest to think of the Saints trade as follows: 16th for 18th + 101st picks in 2022 i.e. the Wentz pick trade. Both these picks were then ultimately used to draft AJ Brown 19th for 1st rounder in 2023 + 2nd rounder in 2024 i.e. value we got back for the not Wentz first rounder traded We also got back a 3rd in 2021 (84th) for Wentz back. This pick was ultimately used in the trade for Devonte but we also had a slightly higher pick in the 3rd round that year which was used on Milton Williams. So for simplicity its more accurate to say that Wentz netted us: AJ Brown + Milton Williams. Jalen Carter is more the result of us pushing the 2022 pick out. Equally you could flip it around and look at it as attributing the 16th pick being the one that pushed out, in which case it would be Jalen Carter + Milton Williams + 2024 trade up from 4th Rd to 2nd Rd. But key point is the Wentz trade is one of AJ Brown or Jalen Carter + other assets. But not both. None of this is means that Howie is not a genius - he went early and got incredible value for a QB who is no longer even in the league and just didn't have mental fortitude to get past what injuries took away from his game. Whichever way you look at it - its an epic return for us.

Howie's getting a lot of love for his trading prowess, but his sense of timing is one of his underrated qualities. He moves guys when he needs to. Signs guys to long term contracts early so we can get them for less. Carson Wentz is an example of both of these things. 14 hours ago, EazyEaglez said: There are some red flags here and that not getting into the fact they were possibly racing. Bottom line: the draft is about picking guys that are prospects, none of these guys are finished products, and none of them are guaranteed to be anything. You weight the pros and the cons, each of these picks are risks. So the question is: does the risks here outweigh Jalen's potential as a prospect? Honestly, if Jalen was drafted by the Raiders, he might be in trouble. Not in Philly. He has amazing leaders in Jalen Hurts, BG, Fletcher Cox. He's got leaders from his college team here in Nakobe (who was at his draft party) and Jordan Davis.

This is a risk worth taking IMO, but I don’t think the concerns should be minimized. The stuff with Vick got turned around because Mike meet that obstacle head on and really turned things around quickly. Let’s see how this kid handles things. Everyone deserves another opportunity.

I know he built the SB team a few years ago but I still think luck played a big part there. But this roster that he’s now built not only is I think more talented but has a real chance to be a contender for many years. And he’s done that all in a few years despite cap restrictions and rebuilding a roster after a decline for a couple of years.
