You can’t put him between lane and kelce. That’s a recipe for disaster. Kid needs another year in the weight room before he’s ready to take Kelces spot. Yeah... best player will play. Siri already said it

Wow, for you to think Cam is weak is almost hilarious... far from that. Cam will just fine at G this year then jump right back to C next year. Steen will get the opportunity to learn an no doubt at some point fill in during the season at 2 or 3 positions.

That's fine.. and I don't think Cam will have a problem winning that because of the experience he gained last year . Also.. every year...every camp...they say there is a "competition" at every position but seems like we all know who's in what position in May before they even go to camp.

What experience did he gain at RG last year that makes you so certain?
April 29, 20232 yr Just one man's opinion. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2023-nfl-draft-third-round-grades-lions-get-b-for-hendon-hooker-steelers-earn-a-for-darnell-washington/

At guard he’ll be a space eater at 6’6 321 pounds and I trust Stoutland more than some random person that writes for CBSsports.com.

This is Tommy Lawlor's analysis (also brief) of Steen. http://igglesblitz.com/2023/04/eagles-pair-players/

April 29, 20232 yr Jurgens doesn't have any experience at guard either, so it's also a projection from his standpoint. I know some of the scouting reports last year on the draft sites noted that as one of his "cons" was the lack of versatility to play both guard and center and that he's strictly a center prospect. I personally think Steen's physical profile gives him the edge over Jurgens for the RG competition, but Jurgens does have the advantage of being in the league for a year.

The man went from DT to a starting OL on Alabama. Cmon man

April 29, 20232 yr This kid has great feet and is an excellent pass blocker. Maybe a future starter at RG or RT but his ability to play LT is a huge boost for the line.

Ended up going in the 4th, wonder what it was, pretty much a 3 year starting tackle for one of the best teams in College football, didn't allow a sack last year, he's hands down a better player than Steen for me but like you say there must be something.
April 29, 20232 yr I see this as more of a potential replacement for Driscoll. Driscoll is currently the guy we plug in at tackle or guard in a pinch. This is the last year of his rookie contract and it wouldn't be all that surprising for a team to overpay him in free agency. The Eagles can't afford to keep OL backups that other teams will pay to start for them. So we needed to find a swing tackle with the versatility to play inside as well. The Eagles are listing him at guard because of their opening there after the loss of Seumalo. But this is a player with most of his college experience coming from either OT position. We will see him get work inside and out and hopefully won't need him to start for the near future while Stoutland gets a chance to work his magic. Then, when it's time for Lane Johnson to retire, hopefully, one of these guys we keep drafting will be here and ready to take over.

The main concern about Cam is he’s literally the prototypical height and weight for a center in the league, but he’s about 15 pounds light for a guard. On top of that they have Kelce who is also undersized for the Center position. Overall the two of them make the inside somewhat smallish and Kelce’s best asset is have the ability to disengage from blocks at the line level to get hits in the secondary especially in the run game. That will be harder to accomplish if he has to spend more time assisting Cam.
April 29, 20232 yr I always like drafting an O lineman for depth at some point each draft or at least UDFA. To take this guy in the 3rd means they like him that much, and Stoutland University makes every lineman prospect better if nothing else.

I think they love his size and I’m sure Stoutland knows a lot about the kid and had a lot of input with the pick. If Stoutland thinks he can turn this kid into a pro level guard then I think you have to give him a chance to try.

He’s struggling to throw around the same weight Kelce made look easy. He’s small for a guard. And you don’t want a small guard next to a small center. If he was that good he would have been playing guard last year.

I realize Seumalo was underappreciated, but it would take a special rookie to beat him out of a starting spot.
