Solid pick. Can make a solid argument for him being the 2nd best safety in this class after Brian Branch from Alabama. Probably starts for us as a rookie?

Branch is a slot corner who could convert to S. Sydney IS a safety. I had him ranked as my #1 S prospect this year.

No prospect available in the third round is going to be perfect. Have to take the negatives with the positives at that point.

Atogwe was an amazing Canadian for us! 🇨🇦

Sydney Brown x Chase Brown for next bro Super Bowl :ph34r:

  • 2 weeks later...

Excited to see Carter, Steen and Ringo but the guys I feel most confident about to be effective game 1 are Smith and Brown.

(Funny, just realized they have our WRs last names.. am talking about rookies obviously)

  • 3 months later...

Really excited for his potential.  I think they need to just start him and let him grow.  People will need to be patient with any rookie mistakes and getting adjusted, but they don't have anyone better.  He will benefit from the experienced players at corner as well.

I like the idea and sentiment but not sure this team should be playing a rookie who’s likely to make mistakes at a position that could hurt us. But if they think he can also make big plays then that may be a worth the risk.

Just bring him along the same way they brought Dawk along.

Dawk had Emmitt Thomas carefully monitoring him, don't think Sydney Brown will have that type of support...

We don't know how "likely" it is, but like I said there's no one better on the roster. If he's talented, start him.

Even veterans make mistakes.

It's all going to depend how quickly he learns the defense and gets comfortable within the scheme.

Not sure that's going to happen in time for week one, and who knows if one of the other guys come out of the gate playing well.  But it's just a matter of time for him.

I don't mind if they just want to work him into games and see how he does early in the season. Just don't do something like when we started Nate Gerry over TJ Edwards "for his experience." If our starter is stinking up the field, get Brown out there sooner rather than later.

What I am saying is- if the kid can play, he can play. Dawk could, and Rhoades let him. We'll see if he can play as a rook.

Yeah I agree with that. If he’s their best safety and a play maker then play him.

Brown was a five year starter at Illini who played all over the backfield, he is pretty much as experienced a rookie as you can get and his athletic measurables are top end, he wouldn't have been a reach in the second round, he's the most ready to contribute 3rd round pick we've made in a while, at a position we're not exactly blessed in.

Honestly I'd start him. I'd say he's been the most impressive of the drafted guys along with Carter.

It's very likely...less experience = more prone to make mistakes

Veterans make mistakes, yes, but they also have the advantage of learning from past mistakes which helps them make less in the future

I agree. Start him with Ghost. Edmunds as 3rd S playing in the box when needed. Kid is a freaking bullet train out there. I said right after the draft that as far as potential impact in year 1, him and Carter were tied for 1st for me in that department.

He's gonna be a fan favorite for years. Philly loves safeties.

Got my autographed rookie card in of him finally.

Can they make a jersey that can flip the initial 2 or 1 so an AJ jersey can double as a Sydney Jersey lol

Would be nice.  Hope runs eternal in the preseason.  He'll need to deliver on some bone crunching hits and turnovers to become a fan favorite.
