The Lions I believe have become the first team to play the last game of the prior regular season (Game 272) and the first game (Game 1) of the subsequent regular season.

THEY open in Kansas City against the Chiefs.

This makes sense, especially if FOX and CBS were lobbying to keep all of the Chiefs marquee games and/or NBC wanting to keep some of those for later in the year, especially with the writers guild strike possibly having considerable effects on prime time programming in the fall.

Also, Aaron Rodgers's debut for the Jets will be against the Bills in one of two Monday nights on September 11.

There will be two Monday night games the first three weeks of the regular season.  I wonder if some of the scheduling has to do with the possibility those weeks will be actual doubleheaders on ESPN and ABC with games at 7:10 and 10:25/10:35 to protect ABC from the possibility that the writers guild strike may still be going on when the NFL season starts (the late-night talk shows are shut down until the strike ends and that is expected to be a VERY long strike that could last well into the fall because of the issues involved, especially with Artificial Intelligence apparently in play as part of this).
