time2rock
NFL RUMORS: DESEAN JACKSON RETURNING TO EAGLES IN 2023? By Victor Williams May 21, 2023 DeSean Jackson is embarking on the 16th season of his NFL career, and if he had it his way, it’d be with the Philadelphia Eagles. On a recent episode of the I AM ATHLETE podcast, Jackson stated that he’d like to retire as an Eagle but hasn’t necessarily closed the door on a potential return in 2023. "When I retire, I’m definitely gonna retire a Philadelphia Eagle. That was one of the best places I’ve been and I had a lot of success there. Just something about Philadelphia, that Eagle green sits different with me. I know [Eric] Weddle actually came out of retirement and played in the playoffs for the Rams, so at any given time if one of these teams wanna call about Week 17, Week 18 right before playoffs and hit me up for a playoff run, I’ll be here.” Jackson, 36, was initially drafted by the Eagles in 2008 and went on to become one of the most prolific deep threats in league history. His first stint with Philadelphia ended abruptly when then-Head Coach Chip Kelly released him due to alleged gang affiliations. The three-time Pro Bowler made the Eagles regret that decision every chance he could, burning his former club for 569 yards before returning to Philly in 2019. His homecoming was shortlived, however, as injuries limited Jackson to just eight games across two seasons. Jackson later had quick stops with the Raiders, Rams, and Ravens, but his best playing days are clearly behind him at this stage of his career. In addition, the Eagles aren’t hurting for talent at wide receiver. AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith are firmly entrenched as the top pass-catchers while the team added Olamide Zaccheaus in free agency. Factor in 4th-year speedster Quez Watkins, and there isn’t much room for Jackson in the rotation. He could potentially serve as a return-man, as the Eagles have struggled with special teams in recent years. Regardless, DeSean Jackson returning home to pursue a ring with his original team would be a heartwarming story. Jackson currently holds the NFL record for most 60+ yard TDs and is second behind Jerry Rice for most 50+ yard TDs in his career. https://thelibertyline.com/2023/05/21/desean-jackson-returning-to-eagles/

VaBeach_Eagle
1 day contract? Sure. Why not. If for nothing else, the Miracle at the New Meadowlands earned him that.

But the suggestion he might return punts or more is bonkers.

Look he’s not the player that he once was but to return punts? Covey improved but he’s hardly a dynamic return guy.
