EAGLES BUZZ: ROOKIE SYDNEY BROWN IS IMPRESSING HIS VETERAN TEAMMATES DURING OTAS

Despite being a third-round selection, former Illinois safety Sydney Brown was not drafted by the Eagles to be a backup. He has a real opportunity to snag a starting position with both CJ Gardner-Johnson and Marcus Epps no longer in the picture.

During the Eagles’s OTAs, Brown has reportedly been rotating in the with the second group at safety, along with Justin Evans and K’Von Wallace. Newly acquired Terrell Edmunds and second-year DB Reed Blankenship have taken the majority of the starting reps.

Nevertheless, Brown has impressed his fellow safeties in the short time they’ve been together, namely Edmunds.

Edmunds took notice of Brown’s work ethic and his performance during the practice sessions.

"He’s a hard worker. He doesn’t say too much. He’s always smiling, but you just know that he wants it,” Edmunds said. "He just goes out there and gives 110%. He’s willing to learn. He just loves football. You can tell.”

Edmunds on the Eagles rookie

Even though Edmunds and Blankenship are occupying the first team at the moment, Brown isn’t far behind them. Aside from Darius Slay, James Bradberry, and Avonte Maddox, none of the positions in the defensive backfield are set in stone just yet.

Not only will Brown have the opportunity to learn alongside Pro Bowl talents this offseason, he’ll be able to lean on Blankenship, someone who had to carve out a role for himself last year as an undrafted rookie.

"Make sure you’re ready at all costs,” Blankenship told reporters last week when speaking on the advice he’s given to Brown. "You know, the rent is due every day. That’s what [Nick] Sirianni talks about, no matter what position you’re in.”

Expect the combination of Edmunds, Blankenship, and Brown to see substantial playing time on the backend of the Eagles defense this season. While the trio is still largely unproven, no one’s denying the potential they each bring to the table. If they continue to push each other throughout the offseason, that potential may be realized sooner rather than later.
