LEAKED: FIRST LOOK AT EAGLES 2023 KELLY GREEN UNIFORMS

Last March, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie announced the official return of the fan-favorite Kelly Green uniforms.

A few months back, we got a potential first look at the Kelly Green helmets. This week, the jersey has been leaked online, with the popular color apparently for sale at a sporting goods store called Gameday Sports.

 

At first glance, the jerseys appear to be based on the scheme Philadelphia wore from 1985-1995, famously worn by Randall Cunningham. The franchise made the switch to midnight green in 1996.

Since then, the Eagles have only once donned Kelly throwbacks, during a game against the Packers in 2010, but the style was modeled on the outfits worn in 1960.

In June 2021, the NFL announced a policy that would permit clubs to wear two different helmets beginning in the 2022 season. The previous one-helmet rule was the complication, as Lurie wasn’t content with using decals on helmets. Although there was never a regulation prohibiting wearing the jerseys, he desired a matching helmet.

Last season, the Eagles took advantage by wearing black jerseys with black alternate helmets. In 2023, Kelly Green is a full-go.

"We really wanted to go back to the classic, Eagles green, Kelly green jersey, but we wanted to do it the right way, and the right way was to have a matching helmet,” said Lurie at the NFL Annual Meetings last year. "And for whatever different reasons existed, it wasn’t until June of 2021 that the NFL has allowed us to come up with a second helmet.

"If you remember the 90s and the 80s with Randall [Cunningham] and Reggie [White] and Jerome [Brown] and Seth [Joyner] and Clyde [Simmons] and everybody, it’s going to be that uniform, and it’s going to be as identical to what that existed as possible.”

I think it needs a little more pop to the jersey. Love going with the Kelly Green jerseys but I need to see it all come together.

Do we know what color pants they’re wearing them with. Add a stripe or two, if the pants have a stripe. Uggghhh. I need more information. LOL

I wish they'd stop using that photoshopped pic of Hurts and Smith in these articles. It's a very poor rendition, period.

If they do the Kelly Greens right, then the Midnight Greens need to be the alternates and the Kelly Greens the main uniforms.

I'm superstitious when it comes to uniforms.  Eagles have a damn good record in the Midnight Greens.  I want to see what the team record is wearing the Kellys

I'm not superstitious about those sorts of things. To me, it's the people, not the clothes/gear, that win or lose games. But we do have more league championship victories in Kelly Green than we do in Midnight Green (3 to 1).

But of course, the vast majority of us (here on the EMB) weren't around for most (if not all) of the three in Kelly Green.
