Technically he isn't wrong ... we're SB LII champs.  :flex:

It is all about fitting in into a new scheme with transfers.

And if Eagle fans give these guys more than 24 hours to try to fit in. Maybe one of them will.

They should be able to fit in and star within 23 hours! :P

There is nothing about their past performances that indicates they'll be anything other than "ok" (at best), regardless of scheme.  Of course I hope one of them will play well for us, I'm just saying that initially the signings aren't anything to get excited about as far as "fixing a weak area" or moving the needle for the overall defense.

I would be panicked about our LB situation, if not for the fact that subpar or average LB corps seem to be common in the NFL these days. Teams just dont care (except for 49ers and Cowboys)

Last year, in the biggest game of the season, our defense didn't get a single sack or create a single turnover. We had 1 TFL. We allowed a gimpy Mahomes to run for huge gains at critical moments.

Before that game, I was thinking about all the players on defense that were on the last year of their contracts and how we needed to find a way to keep as much here after the season. But after the game, there was a bad taste left in my mouth and I really didn't care if any of those free agents re-signed or walked.

I'm as worried about our current starting LBs as I am about starting Blankenship --- which is not at all. Worst case scenario, our defense disappears in a big game. Best case scenario, the opposite happens. As a rookie, Dean helped push TJ Edwards into having his best season. Edwards had a strong 84.8 grade from PFF.  Kyzir White began the season very good, but then started to slowly disappear. He ended the season with a PFF grade of 65. Dean didn't get much time, but had a 78.7 grade as a rookie. Morrow's grade slipped to 54 last season. Elliss is giving him a run for his money for the starting WLB gig. He had 68.3 grade last season.

Overall, I'm much more excited than I am nervous. The early takes make it appear Elliss is the frontrunner to win the WLB job. To come in with very little NFL experience and beat a veteran that was by all accounts "an average starter" last year, it's kind of exciting. Are we starting big names at LB. Not at all, but there's no reason to be overly concerned when a no-namer is all of a sudden getting praise everyday. Trotter hardly played as a rookie and then came on strong in his 2nd year after winning the starting job in camp.

So when is it ok to start panicking about the LB corps?

Yeah i'm slightly concerned.

I still think we sign another high profile in the next few weeks

It's funny how whenever we have a vet starter that is unspectacular at a position, all we hear is "they should just play [insert young player] and find out what they have in him." But whenever we plan to start the season with a young, inexperienced player, it's "Panic!" or "Howie needs to make a move."

We all knew there was going to be roster turnover after last season with so many players hitting free agency. If anybody expected the Eagles to spend a grip of money at LB, they haven't been paying attention. The Eagles drafted Dean knowing Edwards would become a free agent. They signed Morrow to replace White. They kept Elliss around last season because they liked his potential. They drafted Nolan Smith with an eye on the future and are exploring ways to get him on the field early at off ball LB. Obviously, they brought in Jack and Cunningham to compete for roster spots.

I seriously don't understand what bad things people expect to happen. Everybody on our roster is better than Nate Gerry and he used to be a starter for us. Even as bad as he was, it wasn't the end of the world.

Sounds like Cunningham had a nice practice against the Browns.

I see quite a few people posting roster predictions where he is cut.  I think he and Morrow both make it and Jack is the odd man out.

Need to see more from Jack. He didn’t show much from the last PS game. Feels like Cunningham is the better playmaker. Overall the group isn’t that exciting.

I hope one of them decapitates mariota in practice

This appears plausible.

They'll keep the best coverage guys in the end. They'll bank on the d-line disrupting the run game and want guys that aren't complete liabilities in coverage. They said Cunningham was pretty good in pass coverage during the practices tipping Watson's passes and he got the start. It feels like they're prioritizing guys with coverage skills

I expected Cunningham to be a liability in coverage, but he actually looked decent.

Hot rumor is that Cunningham will make the team and be LB3. Possibly LB2, starting next to Dean.

Time will tell. 🤪

My gut was saying he wasn’t to make the cut over those others … he made the decision for us, so not exactly the same.

We’ll never know if he would have beaten out any of those other guys now but I don’t think he would have.

No he clearly faded as he was playing the 4th qtr last game. Never a good sign

Also doctors said he'd have a short career because of knee cartilage. People never like to believe draft red flags are true but they often are.  Jags got some good years out of him tho

Yeah, but they need competent players, which I'm not sure they have.
