I know there will be a rotation, but I’d be shocked if Swift doesn’t lead the RBS in touches and I don’t expect it to be that close.

From what I've been reading, Swift will be a multi purpose player and will serve as the de facto extra receiver on the game day roster.  Would not be surprise to see him split out wide with somebody else in the backfield.

Gainwell carried the load today. Think Swift touched the ball maybe twice and Scott once. Penny was inactive. Not a very start for the backs really.

Strange RB game today.

You would think in sloppy weather they would have had Penny active and tried some power football. I don't think Jurgens is going to cut it. I saw him on his back a lot. Need more beef next to Kelce.

Feels like the backs were kind of misused in this one. No Penny and they barely used Swift and Scott. Gainwell started strong, but really got shut down. The offensive line did not have a good game run blocking or pass blocking. The Eagles who are a running team struggled to run the football.

I think Jurgens is a problem. He's not the Guard we need. Too small to be lined up next to a smaller Kelce. He was getting smoked yesterday. Hope they make the adjustment to get Steen in sooner than later. Everyone also seems to be forgetting that NE is damn good against the run.

They also had like 50 sacks last year too so they’re also pretty good against the pass as well. Felt like Mialata got beat a few times on the rush forcing Jalen out the pocket. Just felt like the oline was out of sync and the run and pass game struggled because of it. I wonder if Penny were out there churning out some 4 yard runs would the offense have looked different.

Yeah... curious what went into the decision of making him inactive instead of Scott

Scott I guess plays special teams, but they have to try to find a way to move the football on the ground without running Hurts 10-15 times a game.

Penny is actually a good kick returner. Hoping that it was one of those things where they wanted to ease him in and didn't want his first real game back to be in bad weather?
Otherwise I don't get it.

Overall I was not a fan of the coaching decisions as a whole in this one. It looked like they might roll and then they fell apart on offense. Maybe that had to do with the really short week. Having Penny fresh for the next one could be the plan.

Seems like an extremely odd decision this early in the season resting Penny. I get running the ball early in the game with Gainwell due to the weather, but NE's run defense is quite good and Gainwell isn't the type of runnner you want going up against that.

On top of that, Swift was a non-factor as well. Nick has always done a pretty good job distributing the ball, yesterday was unacceptable.

Lane struggled a few times  too with his man just shoving him back into the passing pocket.

Weird game, sure glad they escaped with a win.

Henry is still out there

Swift and Scott only 1 carry each, Hurts 9 carries.  That's insane, especially in the weather.  Feed the RBs, let the O line work in the run game to be aggressive. They were letting the Pats rush get to Hurts too much causing him to have to scramble.

They have no RB screen game whereas the Pats were destroying our defense with RB screens and short passes and slants.

Penny was healthy scratch, he absolutely should have played in this game.  There were no TE catches at all, should have just not dressed one and had Penny play instead.

It was the standard early season Eagles rushing game, unless an RB breaks out a double digit gain in his first ten carries just give up handing it off altogether and just trot out (Don't) Read, Pass Option! and the worst screen game in the NFL for the rest of the game.

Agreed. Just an odd game plan by the Offense and the Coaches.

Penny a healthy scratch. The TE the just traded for doesn’t even dress. OZ barely plays, and Gainwell thrown to more times than Goedert. This was a mess.

Were the Coaches on Offense trying to be the 'smartest guy in the room'?

Would love to hear an explanation on why the RB situation was that, and why there was no game plan to get their pretty damn good TE into the mix, or even get Swift into the mix. Were/are they saving them? SMH.

Honestly the NFL did them no favors having two games in four days with one of them being a road game against a game Patriots team with their HC two wins shy of 300, needing only to focus on the Eagles, while they were celebrating Tom Brady. The Eagles coordinators are new, they team hasn’t played, and this young group of coaches are trying to put in game plans for two teams in four days one of those teams happens to be coached by one of the best defensive minds in football. It was a tall order for sure. Unlike everyone else I’m not so sure these first four games will be easy at all.

I feel like the entire season will be tough. The new players, the harder schedule, the new Coordinators, etc. They may have to scratch and claw for their wins.

Scott is a much better RB than Gainwell, he runs harder and has better vision.

Speaking of vision, I noticed yesterday that Gainwell's vision isn't very good, there was one play where a really big hole was on his left and the clown didn't see it, you could have gotten 3 RBs running side by side and all three would have made it though the hole untouched.   I have no idea why everyone thinks so highly of him, he's nothing special, just an Average Joe.

That's the thing about RBs, if they ain't special why have them on your team?

That's my outlook also with additional reasonings.

It’s too early to call, but we do have to wonder if these year one coordinators will look anything like year one Gannon and Steichen.
