Stoll is solid #2 but not nearly dynamic enough as a receiver. They will add a punter and WR in the next day or two. Ojomo is going IR and I think Goodrich will as well but they needed both to be on initial 53-man roster to be able to be activated in-season. They will go light at LB into the season - being able to use Edmunds at the spot in game if they have a couple of injuries. Expect a few guys on PS there as well - look for Kyron and VanSumeren (and maybe another one) who will be periodically be elevated and active to help on game days, and ST in particular Low key Goedert has been injured more often than they might like, but to flat out trade for a guy to replace him before the season even starts kind of feels like a waste. Also why is Ojomo going to the IR when he’s been back practicing and he’s not on the injury report?

Even Gainwell has been talked about as a guy who can line up in the slot. Who knows, maybe between those two they are planning on a lot of two RB sets with one of them splitting out on any given play. Could add a new dimension to the offense.

I'm not sure Gainwell has the hands for that but we'll see. Swift looks like a legit WR out there.

August 30, 20232 yr Since we don't have a punter would Howie be considering Matt Azaria? He's been cleared of criminal wrong doing. There's a civil suit but given that he was not present at the event (according to the police investigation) there's small chance it will be successful. There is video of him booming 80 yard punts. Food for thought.

August 30, 20232 yr We need a Punter ASAP. Howie can improve the bottom of the roster all he wants after that.

Gainwell had been known as a good pass catcher but had a bad camp last year and a bad early season. Seemed to put it together late

August 30, 20232 yr As much as I don't rate Covey or Ward, bit surprised we cut every receiver outside the top 4. Interested to see who the odd man out is when we have to cut to bring in a punter (probably Siposs again).

They cut Malik Cunningham too, they currently have no backup QB, Zappe completed 71% of his passes as a rookie for 780 yards 5 TD's and 3 Picks, even clearly struggling to pick up a new offense he completed near 60% of his passes in preseason, I don't understand why you'd waive him especially when teams can keep a third emergency QB without them counting against the 53.

He was the best WR in preseason and can do punt returns. If unclaimed, they could bring Covey back too. The other thing that seems plausible is moving a couple guys to IR to bring in depth at our currently thin positions. If I had to guess the "odd man out," I would think it would be at TE.

Guys like PR and even P might not be on the 53 for a few weeks and could just be on the PS.
August 30, 20232 yr Didn't understand the trade for the TE. But then realized that he is a big body and can block and catch. He and Goedert together on the field will be problem for defense. Not just an insurance if Goedert misses game. P is an obvious need. So is LB which is thin. Howie and coaches did not put them at high priority. Guess they will stack some LBs at PS and adjust the roster on game-to-game basis. P is still a full-time job, even the team goes on 4th down more often than most. P also double as holder for FG which need to practices. Can't go on Day's Special route.

They'll probably put Zappe on their practice squad and I recently became aware Cunningham while researching his former Louisville teammate 4.20 WR Tyler Harrell, Cunningham looks good also. as does Harrell who'll be available in 2024, he's with 'Bama this year. Both of those guys look better than Mariota.

They'd try to gut out wins with Mariota based on his running and the superiority of the WRs and then they are in line for a cheap backup in 2024. If Mariota has to play & stinks then they can play McGee. I don't see them trashing 5 mil and starting with a new guy now
