January 7Jan 7 Author 4 Eagles Newly Eligible for Contract Extensions on Monday Nakobe Dean and Cam Jurgens highlight the list of Eagles who became eligible for new contract extensions after Week 18. By Jason Schandl | Jan 6, 2025 Philadelphia Eagles fans and players have their attention firmly set on Sunday's matchup with the Green Bay Packers. The front office will too, but they'll also need to have one eye looking ahead to the offseason. More than half of the NFL has already kicked off their offseasons, and playoff teams need to make sure they don't fall behind. One interesting wrinkle that doesn't wait for the end of the postseason is the progression of players eligible for contract extensions. On Monday of Wild Card week, all players still on rookie contracts from the 2022 NFL Draft are now eligible to sign contract extensions. That draft was a big one for the Eagles, and that means some key players could be getting new deals. Cam Jurgens, Nakobe Dean Highlight Eagles Eligible for Contract Extensions The Philadelphia Eagles made five selections in the 2022 NFL Draft, and four of them are still on the roster on rookie deals: Jordan Davis, Cam Jurgens, Nakobe Dean and Grant Calcaterra. All four of them are now eligible for contract extensions for the first time. For Jurgens, Dean and Calcaterra, who didn't have fifth-year options on their rookie deals like Davis did, that means they're entering the final season of their deals. Calcaterra isn't exactly a crucial piece of this team, but it means that extending Jurgens and Dean must be near the top of GM Howie Roseman's priority list this offseason. Jurgens has made the Pro Bowl in his first season as the starting center, replacing franchise legend Jason Kelce, and Dean has finally had the breakout year fans have been hoping for. He's played a big role in helping transform this defense after a disappointing 2023-24 season. Over the Cap projects Philly to have only about $23.6 million in cap room this offseason (No. 20 in the NFL), but that should still be enough to get their key extensions done, especially since stars like AJ Brown, Devonta Smith, Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley are all locked up. And of course, for now, fans are going to remain a lot more worried about the Green Bay Packers than they are about contract negotiations. https://section215.com/4-eagles-newly-eligible-contract-extensions-monday-01jgy3bbcvs8
January 13Jan 13 Author Eagles fear Nakobe Dean will miss remainder of playoffs with knee injury If the Eagles are going to win the Super Bowl, it appears they’re going to have to do it without linebacker Nakobe Dean. The Eagles fear Dean’s knee injury is going to keep him out for the rest of the playoffs, according to NFL Network. Dean is set for an MRI today to get a full diagnosis, but the injury looked bad and the Eagles quickly ruled him out of Sunday’s game against the Packers. Dean started 15 games and was second on the team with 128 tackles during the regular season. He’ll be a big loss to their defense as they prepare for a divisional round game against the winner of tonight’s game between the Vikings and Rams. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/eagles-fear-nakobe-dean-will-miss-remainder-of-playoffs-with-knee-injury
January 13Jan 13 That would bring us down to 3 healthy off-ball LBs. I wonder who they'll bring in for depth. Morrow?
January 13Jan 13 Does Burks or Trotter get the promotion to starter? Hard to bring in an outsider to start. Maybe a depth signing is in order.

I am hoping they work Trot Jr. in with the 1st team all week to get him ready and Burks continues to serve as a backup. White Burks has the veteran experience he also seems to have limited upside (I think Trot Jr. has more potential upside).
January 13Jan 13 Tough loss for sure. But given that GB lost ALL their starting receivers and a handful of other players I think we escaped this game relatively unscathed. In Vic I trust.
January 13Jan 13 Anyone notice anything in the replays? Didn't look like anything unusual. Tough break, though, Dean had a great season and was having a fantastic game.

They had Blasingame active yesterday, so I imagine he'd be 4th. He was on special teams. On another note, I feel horrible for Nakobe. He was having great year and great game before he got injured (6 tackles, 2 TFLs). I call him the "Hall Monitor" because running isn't allowed when he's in the game. Jacobs really didn't get going until after he left. I wish him a speedy recovery.

January 13Jan 13 Damn, I was hoping this was minor. He's impressed so much this year, come back strong Kobe.

January 13Jan 13 Really sucks about Dean. He was finally having a good season and making an impact. Between his previous foot issue and now this, the hits just keep coming for him. I imagine Howie is going to feel like he absolutely HAS to re-sign Baun now...and it likely gives Baun even more leverage. Hope Howie gets it done.
January 13Jan 13 Ben VanSumeren is on IR. They like him a lot earlier, but has been quiet since injured. Given that he has not seen much action for a while, a back-up is the most likely scenario, if he is the one they bring up. Perhaps moved to PS as the 1st step. Couple more LBs on PS, though not known much about them. Outside help at this point does not seem feasible. If someone who was with the team before, maybe that is possible.
January 13Jan 13 Really a shame. He was having a good season. Apparently a good person and leader too according to teammates. Baun's price tag keeps going up, and now they really need to add a LB in the offseason because Dean will be out much of the season (from what others have said).
January 13Jan 13 I think deans leadership will really be missed. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that our number 1 defence has him as the leader. Vic seemed to work really nicely with him.
January 13Jan 13 Feel for the brotha. He played so well this season and really gelled in the defense. Injury is a part of his career trajectory. Which means any contracts he gets in the future will be incentive laden, with escalators.

I agree, hopefully they go to Trott or at least work him into a rotation to see if there is more upside there
