Found the aritcle below - only Conklin really performed back close to levels pre-injury. https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2022/9/29/23375951/chiefs-injuries-analyzing-lucas-niangs-patellar-tendon-rupture-and-his-potential-return
January 13Jan 13 That not only significantly impacts the team's playoff run, but it also could drastically change the offseason strategy. Baun becomes an even more important player to re-sign and they might need to sign a vet LB and/or draft one for depth. Oren Burks is not the answer as a starter as we all saw yesterday. I would like to see them give JTJ more of a look. On a side note I feel terrible for Dean. Dude hasn't had an easy path to get to where he was this year but he was playing at a pro-bowl level for most of the year. Next season could be lost for him and this injury could impact the rest of his career and ability to get a decent contract extension. Just terrible news all the way around.
January 13Jan 13 Bad break for the guy. He finally plays a full season only to suffer a major injury in the playoffs.
January 13Jan 13 Author Wouldn’t be a bad idea honestly. Still hoping to see Trot Jr. (but have a feeling they’re gonna go with Burks because of his experience). But depth is needed so this would make some sense.
January 14Jan 14 I'm on board with giving Trotter Jr. a shot. He has played well in his 109 snaps on defense. But this team prefers to rely more on vets in the postseason, so Burks is the next man up. Hopefully a week practicing with the 1st team defense will help out. We still need to elevate or sign another for depth.

I mean, he needed to be helped off the field, so it would seem likely it was a complete tear, but the reports are saying "out for the playoffs," which gives me a little hope that it is only a partial tear which would require less recovery time.

I would assume it's a full tear, multiple reports have been coming out that next season is in question as well.

January 14Jan 14 Hey everybody take a chill pill..we have Vic! In Vic we trust. I am sure LB is not as dire as Tate is making it out to be. My biggest concern is the offense and the lack of it.
January 14Jan 14 Dean won over the skeptical fans, myself included, and became a beloved cog in this machine. Much respect. Heal up!

He came into the league injured, went on IR last season with the lisc-franc injury and now tore his knee this year which could possibly lead to him being out the majority of next season. It's sad to see, but it seems like a lot of the "skeptical" fans were right.
January 14Jan 14 Injuries aside, I didn't see any flashes or hints that he could achieve what he did this year. And with proper coaching, he produced. I understand your skepticism over his injury history. I, on the other hand, enjoyed his (short-lived) underdog story.

I've heard multiple sports doctors talk about it since yesterday and even spoke to a doctor myself and long term prognosis is good at his age, he should be back to what he was, but the recovery is tough. Should get back on the field next season though.

My wife is an orthopedic surgeon and has performed more than a few of these repairs. At least half of the NFL players that have had a patellar tear never return to the quickness of pre injury. He won't make the beginning of next season, that's almost a guarantee. TE Jimmy Graham for example was running and practicing 10months post surgery, now WR Victor Cruz, RB Cadillac Williams among others were career altering.

Morrow is the current #4 and needs to get Vic's terminology down as quickly as possible in case he is needed. He has familiarity with the system and many of the players and was mostly solid last year as Dean's replacement. This was the most likely move available.
