DaEagles4Life
Thought this would be a fun topic to discuss lol I think to start guy or gal doesn't see a problem with taking medication to function is beyond me. I haven't dove into the backlash yet or the full scope, but I lean towards Rowling

It's the folks who need the medication and they refuse to do it. It is not lazy to take medication to function. Quite the contrary. It takes great strength to admit there's a problem and take action to do something about it. Not to mention all the follow up visits to doctors, therapists, etc. Not lazy at all. Rowling is doing a disservice. I could care less about the writer.

Do they not want to address they issue but just keep popping pills to "think" everything is okay?
Paul852
I don't have the energy for this in 2020. Let's put this on the back burner until 2021.

This has been going on for weeks now on social media. TERF wars is what it’s often referred to as. I don’t think she is making a whole lot of friends in the transgender community. binkybink77
I agree with Rowling and I've made similar points before about the risks of halting puberty, altering growth and development of young people, affecting fertility and even the issue of it being a fad or popular to do. I'm also of the opinion that adults can legally do whatever they want. I'm not going to be cruel but I'm also not going to bow down and try to include trans women in every point I make about the experience of being a woman.

If you can get to a good point and can stop, that's great. Some folks cannot. If you're looking for a magic pill to solve everything and not doing any of the follow-up, you're doing it all wrong anyway.

The psychological benefits in specific treatments have been studied since (at least) the 1960’s. End the war on drugs already and decriminalize personal use amounts.

Slowly and surely the tides are turning. John Hopkins and other major universities are doing studies on mushrooms and MDMA and the outcomes are extremely positive. toolg
Letter signed by JK Rowling and many others... This thread is probably the best place to post. Quote The restriction of debate, whether by a repressive government or an intolerant society, invariably hurts those who lack power and makes everyone less capable of democratic participation. The way to defeat bad ideas is by exposure, argument, and persuasion, not by trying to silence or wish them away. We refuse any false choice between justice and freedom, which cannot exist without each other. As writers we need a culture that leaves us room for experimentation, risk taking, and even mistakes. We need to preserve the possibility of good-faith disagreement without dire professional consequences. If we won’t defend the very thing on which our work depends, we shouldn’t expect the public or the state to defend it for us. I agree to an extent. Nobody is correct all of the time. Some people have very wrong ideas and they need room to expose them, so they may learn if they have the capacity to do so. Good-faith argument is necessary, yes, but there are a lot of bad actors out there too. People like Rowling who have a large audience and face backlash for their comments need to reconcile why they continue to receive resistance. It's not as if she made one bad comment that went out of control.

Additionally some women (myself included) think it's ridiculous to be expected to censor or be inclusive on every statement made regarding the experience of being a woman. There are some who say, and I believe Rowling has expressed this, that it actually feels like just another form of misogyny. That we need to bow down to the feelings and concerns of men (who identify as women).

We are either born man or woman, with that comes certain anatomy and hormones etc. Those things can't always be produced and changed if someone makes the decision to transition from one sex to the other.
