October 9, 20232 yr He just didn't show much off the field but, under the lights, with the game on the line, he was pure gold. He thrived in the package Reid built for him but, we he got into other systems, he fell flat.
October 9, 20232 yr Jalen just led the Eagles to the Super Bowl (something only four quarterbacks have done in franchise history) and some people to this day are still don’t even think he’s an NFL quarterback.
October 9, 20232 yr Author The bottom line is Foles was the natural successor to Vick. He was always better as an Eagle than with other teams. Why? I don't know.... This was the place where he shined. A QB is basically the de facto team leader. Imagine having someone like that who you respect and admire as opposed to Wentz who was much more concerned with personal glory and his own ego. It really does make a big difference. And as I said, take out his first 1-5 year with the Eagles, which is fair because a lot of guys have a rough patch when they first start, and then you have a 20-6 stretch after that. Who can argue with winning over 3/4ths of your games? Would this have been the case if he kept being the QB? Who knows... Now we'll never know. He's the only one who has ever led this team to a Superbowl victory. The Eagles had a chance to correct Chip's disastrous blunder and do the RIGHT THING and get rid of Wentz and keep Foles. I was definitely in the minority at the time, but I knew I was right... and lo and behold.... I was.

Right now I would easily take Hurts over both of them and that’s not to take away from what either of them accomplished here. In the end why are we lamenting over two players who aren’t in the league anymore? Hurts is our guy. Time to support him.

I was trying to figure how you could say that and you brought up the past. What exactly did Nick Foles do after he left Philly that proves you were right?

Couldnt find Jason Peters response in GIF but it was epic quite honestly. Nick didn't get hurt on this play if I remember correctly. His clavical injury came a few weeks later I believe. It was a long time ago and my memory may be off a bit. But I think this was the clavical season.

Seems to be the case around these parts with pretty much every QB we have ever had. McNabb was hated on big time back in the day. To be fair the wormburners he threw were annoying as was his dancing in the Dallas tunnel right before getting blown out on the field. Partying the night before the SB and puking on the field while throwing multiple picks didn't help his cause either. Vick had quite a few haters around here too. He also had the animal rights people trashing him regularly. And many of them joined the boards too. Foles got hate all day every day. Even while he was throwing 27 tds to 2 ints. McNabb said he could never win a Super Bowl bowl. Nick Foles is awesome and he answered his haters with a Lombardi and Super Bowl MVP. Bradford and Sanchez actually did suck and were hated nearly universally around here. Both had their supporters but they just sucked period. Wentz had detractors his first season. By year two he was on an MVP pace but got hurt and we all know what happened. He never recovered and the haters grew exponentially. I wasn't around here for the first couple years of Jalen but it seems old habits do indeed diehard in TATE.

At the time I also disagreed with the Eagles escorting Foles back to the bench after his historic playoff run and Super Bowl win and MVP. Although I'll admit they were in a very unique situation with choosing between a #2 pick starter that had an MVP season and got injured, with a backup Superbowl MVP and winner. For the record I fully support Hurts now (and any Eagles QB for that matter), just giving my 2 cents in this fishing thread.

My thoughts were if Foles took them to back to back Super Bowls it would be impossible to supplant him for anyone, but that’s not what happened. The Eagles chose Wentz because they invested so much into him. Foles did nothing once he left. Wentz led them to another playoff berth (albeit a very shaky one) while Foles hasn’t come close to any kind of success leaving Philly. How can the Eagles be wrong when Foles has done absolutely nothing to prove them wrong? When they let Dawkins go they looked bad because his replacement wasn’t good enough and he was still productive in Denver. Not even close to the same situation with Foles.

I didn't list every Eagles QB that is correct. I've been an Eagles fan since Randell. But I didn't begin reading and posting in TATE until the McNabb era. So this list reflects that for sure. Prior to joing the boards talking about the Eagles was not such a common experience. I didn't grow up in PA. After the Super Bowl I was in the Foles camp as well. Winning Superbowl MVP should get you the job. Doing so in a shootout with Tom Brady should definitely get you the job. But it is what it is.

It was his best game by far and on the biggest stage. He didn't begin the next season as the starter.

At least not when Nick was in Philly. If it wasn't going 27 to 2 it was throwing 7 tds in one game. For some reason the guy had these crazy things go well for him as long as he wore an Eagles Jersey. Nick Foles winning Superbowl MVP as an Eagle was like poetic justice. The job should have been his because he earned it. But it wasn't and we all know what happened. Looking forward now Jalen took us back to the Superbowl in his second season and he outplayed Mahommes in that game. Hurts has earned the job. Hopefully these coaches can dial up a better game plan and play calling than we saw last week and the offense can get rolling again.

When they let Dawkins go they looked bad because his replacement wasn’t good enough and he was still productive in Denver. Not even close to the same situation with Foles. Well, there are very few QBs in NFL history that have taken their team to back to back Super Bowls, so I would disagree with that being the standard for winning a starting QB job. Foles didn't have a full chance to do that anyway, since Wentz was put back in Week 3 of the next season. Then when Wentz got hurt again toward the end of that year (after playing pretty poorly the majority of the season), Foles came in and saved the season taking us from 6-7 to 9-7 and getting us back to the playoffs. We then won another playoff game with him as the starter, and were one uncharacteristic Alshon Jeffery drop away from the NFC championship game and we don't know what could have happened after that. Yes I am aware the Eagles chose Wentz because of the investment, I didn't like the decision. I would choose who won my team a Super Bowl, not who I drafted with a high pick but that's just me. Wentz also did nothing once he left either. We know Foles wasn't good for any team other than the Eagles, but since our team is the Eagles that's not a good argument for benching him since he played well as an Eagle. Foles not playing well on other teams with different systems, different coaches, different players doesn't prove that the Eagles made the right decision. Players can look like All-Pros in one situation and look terrible in another. I 100% agree about Dawk and thought the FO were idiots for that as well.
