Yeah, I posted earlier questioning why haven't the Eagles found a role for Ringo, I suggested it must be the coaches, after reading this post I'm sure it is, Ringo has more raw ability than any other DB on the team, they need to figure out how to use the guy.

Ringo would have benefitted from another year of college football. He entered the NFL pretty raw.  He's the kind of draft pick where you need to wait 3 years before grading the pick. Special teamer this year while he gets NFL coaching.  The plan was Bradberry and Slay wouldn't need replacing right away, but later.

The problem with Bradberry and Slay is they can't run with the faster WRs in the league, that's why the give up so much cushion.

Ringo can run with the faster WRs in the league at 6'2'', 207lbs, with a 4.36 40 so it makes no sense having him on sidelines looking.

He should have had enough NFL coaching, I mean, it's not like he's taking the Bar Exam, how hard is it to understand that's your man, run with him.

Moral of the story, there's a problem with the coaching.

I think with Rasul he just wasn’t a fit for the scheme. And to be honest he still wouldn’t be. I think he’s a physical CB who needs to be at the line and really pressing and our schemes are all pretty soft.

This is backward-arse thinking, it ain't about the X's and O's, it's about the Jimmy's and Joe's, if a talented player doesn't fit your scheme, change your scheme.

That's what Jim Johnson did with Hugh Douglas, he was only good at rushing the QB and Jim Johnson only had him rushing the QB.

I don’t think you change your scheme for one good but not great player. Rasul is good but he’s not elite and he’s not a future HoFer.

either the system here, coaching or both just couldn't bring the talent out of him or pretty much anyone else.

This.

Sometimes it just takes the right fit, the right Coaches, the right scheme, the right amount of development and time, for guys in the Secondary to develop into productive NFL Players. They 'ball out' at the College level, but the NFL is a different game (same Sport, different Game). So you can have really good College level guys fail in the NFL, and vice versa, you can have ok College level guys be good NFL players.

And hell, sometimes it takes a player to be on two or three different Teams in his career to actually 'get it'. He gets drafted at 21 or 22 years of age, but doesn't become a good NFL player until he's 24 - 27 years old.

The problem with Rasul is no one could figure out he's suited to play safety, he's too slow for the CB position.

So when I say change your system I'm speaking of what exactly are you asking a player to do, what he's lousy at or what he's good at. Douglas would be outstanding at safety.

BTW, forget about elite or future HoFer, that's just more silliness, if he's the best you have then get him on the field.

Slay is plenty fast enough. Speed is a desired trait, but far from the most important one in CBs. My impression of Ringo is that he's intelligent and physically and naturally gifted. But from a technique standpoint is a work in progress. Because of his intelligence, I'm confident he'll respond to coaching and develop, given time. Philadelphia is not a good city to put a raw, mistake-prone player into games to gain experience. Look how fast they turned on Blankenship after just one mediocre game where he also had a key INT. After that game, people were calling him the next Considine ...

Ringo clearly hasn't been ready to play defensive snaps in the NFL as of yet. If the coaches know he isn't ready, putting him in games would be a disaster. He cost us a pick next year. I don't mind waiting until next year to start counting on him.

No he's not.

I wouldn't have a CB playing for me that doesn't run in the 4.3's and isn't a good tackler.

So, you can have all the 4.45 - 4.50 CBs you want, you and opposing defenses will love them.

Slay ran a 4.36 at the combine.

He’s still playing CB though isn’t he? So still nobody has apparently figured out that Safety is his best position.

The Eagles have been very weird this year. We made Tua and Mahomes look like Howell and Jones should have looked and made Howell and Jones look like Tua and Mahomes should have looked. Yes I get Hill dropped a TD and so did MVS, still wouldnhave held to them to their season lows.
