It's clear at this point he did an admirable job of holding this talentless D together with duct tape, including pulling out several clutch stops to win big games.

After he was fired the wheels fell off.  This is now the worst Eagles D I've ever seen in my life.

Who is responsible for this fiasco?  Who was dumb enough to fire the DC in the middle of the season???

He’s not good but neither is the OC or HC. All might be gone.

This team has been barely making it all year. Fundamentals have been poor all year. They won a lot of close games and have been blown out in far too many games. I see this as both a lack of talent and a poor coaching job.

So why exactly were you arguing so hard with me last week when I was saying the exact same thing??

The 2023  Juan Castillo

When Desai was the DC in Chicago, they had several injuries on defense as well and they did admirably well.

It was odd that only he was demoted and Brian Johnson didn't. If the Eagles end up going into next season with BJ as the OC, it's gonna be another long year.

Of course Sirianni probably doesn't want to admit that his offense is failing because he is an offensive minded coach.

NJWolverEagle hit the nail on the head: "2023 Juan Castillo". Just like going from Castillo to Todd Bowles mid season didn't help matters, neither did going from Desai to Matt Patricia.

It was odd from a performance point of view but honestly it wasn’t odd when you consider the real reasons. Sirianni knows if he replaces BJ it’s a reflection on him and his offense and he doesn’t want that. I really don’t think BJ gets fired even now.

Lol, no. He's a terrible coach. Sadly the rest of the coaching staff sucks too. In hindsight Siriani did him a favor since there will be others who come to the same conclusion eventhough he sucks at coaching.

No he wasn't.

I agree 100% at least from Sirianni's standpoint. But given the circumstances of the end of the regular season and what looks to be a projected ugly exit in the 1st round of the playoffs to the Bucs, I think the front office can force his hand.

Sirianni can be forced to work with two new coordinators and make an improvement or be asked to walk if he pushes back like Doug Pederson when he wanted to keep his guys.

Our biggest hope is that either Nick wakes up and sees what's going on or the front office does it for him.

Sirianni shouldn’t have his hand forced. Sirianni should be out on the street with them.

Matt Patricia has Reddick and Sweat dropping into coverage at times and they’re getting absolutely abused. Does anyone think he’ll change this for the Bucs game?

Nope. That first play of the game today with Reddick in coverage but then stepping up to try to get to Taylor. Why on earth is Patricia coming up with that?

He wasn't a scapegoat, but I don't think any of us expected it to get any worse

My argument is this coaching staff has lost this team. It’s bigger than just they have bad players. They’re losing to worse teams. It’s a flat out quit job. Sure they lack talent in some areas, but just like today once again one of their better players screwed up. Another INT by Jalen. The offensive and defensive lines (said to be strong points) are both playing horribly. To try and act like this is all just on talent is ridiculous. If this team had a coaching staff they believe in do I think they would be in this position? Heck no!

I've said numerous times it's coaching AND talent? Why do you think I absolve coaching? Aside from Stoutland, I'm all in favor of gutting the staff.

If the front office has to do it for him, he has no business being the head coach.

I feel like this is a great concern in many ways. Both Doug and Siri had very good OC hires initially, but both failed to replace them with decent replacements. I feel it's in part that both may not have had a strong connection to other coaches from their prior stops, and their pool is limited. Also, I tend to believe that coaches should have autonomy over their staffs. I don't like the idea of Howie or Lurie stepping in to force coaches hands, even if I do agree with their decisions to move on from some coaches. If the coach doesn't recognize the need for change, or have an answer, that's a problem. Further, if Lowie are the type to stick their noses in there, it could limit the quality of head coaches that would accept jobs here. We've been very fortunate that the last 2 coaches made Super Bowls in year 2, but I don't see that great fortune being sustainable.

I firmly believe that it was not Howie who replaced our DC midseason. I believe that players on defense rebelled. Saying something like” What a hell are we doing ?” and questioning their assignments . That is why Desai was replaced. Horrible coaching has burned and buried us on both sides of the ball. The way the coaches have lost this years team… it is time to clean house and new coaching staff.

That’s where we disagree, because this is far more about coaching than it is about talent. These coaches lost this team weeks ago. Do you really believe that Giants team is that much better than the Eagles?

Of course he was the scapegoat. If he was truly the problem they would've fired him.

You’ve watched football long enough to know your last question is irrelevant. Lesser talented teams win all the time.

On offense, I think your statement is accurate. On defense, I don’t agree. I don’t believe the defense is anywhere near as talented as some might think. I tend to agree with @e-a-g-l-e-s eagles!, that the defense has more name value that production value. LBs are an after thought. Safeties are young and inexperienced, or washed up like Byard. Brown may be a player with time and coaching, but he isn’t there yet. Similar with our CBs. Either too young, or washed up.

The defensive line is supposed to be our backbone, but they offer little outside of Reddick and Carter.

The defense is badly undertalented.

Coaching matters. Desai was so bad the players lost confidence in him. Players like Carter suddenly forgot how to play football. You’re conveniently glossing over how poorly this front line is playing. Suddenly they all stink? There’s plenty of teams that lack talent who still go out there and try. This team isn’t coming close to trying anymore. They have given up.

I think it's the exact opposite.  The players liked Desai and took it personally when Sirianni replaced him at 10-3.  That's what made it easy for them to lie down once it became clear Patricia was clueless.

Frankly, I don't blame them.  It was a panic move that pointed a finger where one didn't need to be pointed, and resulted in an entire locker-room of fingers being pointed right back at him (and maybe him losing his job).

Says more about Sirianni than anyone. Scapegoat the meek, nerdy guy but continue to let Brian Johnson call plays, Quez Watkins to exist on the team, and all the underperforming starters to keep playing. Makes him look aimless and gutless. Fire him.
