King Charles diagnosed with cancer, Buckingham Palace says

Quote

King Charles III was diagnosed with a form of cancer and is undergoing treatment, Buckingham Palace announced Monday.

"During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted," Buckingham Palace said in a statement. "Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer."

A source confirmed to Fox News Digital that Prince Harry and King Charles spoke about his diagnosis before His Majesty went public with his health concerns.

"The Duke did speak with his father about his diagnosis," a source confirmed to Fox News Digital. In addition, Harry "will be traveling to UK to see His Majesty" in the coming days.

On Jan. 17, it was announced that King Charles III was scheduled to have a "corrective procedure" for his enlarged prostate. The palace later announced that the surgery had been a success.

"His Majesty is doing quite well," a royal source told Fox News Digital.

Charles, who ascended the throne following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, was diagnosed with the benign condition on Jan. 17 after he experienced undisclosed symptoms. Shortly after, he canceled engagements and was urged to rest ahead of the procedure.

It's apparently NOT prostate cancer, but they're not specifying anything other than that there is cancer present.

How do we rule out prostate cancer which has a high survival rate when caught in time?

The palace apparently said that it's not prostate cancer, so they know what kind it is. It could be lung or stomach or any number of other cancers. We'll just have to wait for them to tell us which it is.

It does seem a bit odd to me that they didn't just come out and say what it is.

Bladder maybe.

Could be in a lymph node near his prostate. The prostate is located between the bladder and rectum. Other concern would be the liver.

I had that thought too, or the colon.

The Palace is typically tight lipped about things like this - so if there was an announcement that Charles has cancer, it could very well be advanced.

Yeah, I don't think they ever mentioned the Queen's cancer until after her death, but I don't follow it that closely to say for sure.

Yeah the monarchy are very tight lipped about personal affairs. There’s probably a lot about every member of the royal family that we don’t know. I hope Charles gets the treatment he needs because most people don’t deserves to suffer.

I can understand them wanting to keep private stuff, private. Of course that works for a family, for a King or Queen? I guess there would need to be a little more public transparency, but there's a fine line between what's personal and what's public for a royal family. Especially when it comes down to the actual monarch, not just a lower level member of the family.

I definitely hope he gets good and proper treatment (which being the King, I'm sure he'll get the best available) and this is just a 'health scare' and not a death sentence.

I am not a fan of Charles, but I hate cancer.

I suspect the fact they are telling us it is not good news. Who knows the severity and I hope he can get the treatment he needs but if we are being told about it then it isn’t good. What I find strange (and to be honest a little disappointing) is that they’ve not told us what type he has. Like surely announcing that will bring more attention to that particular cancer which always comes with a boost to charity donations and raises general awareness.

Yeah, I thought that too (If they're telling, then it's not good). But at the same time, they did say that they 'caught it early' and things of that nature. So maybe they're just being open about the fact of the cancer, while at the same time keeping some info private.

My understand of Charles though,  has been that he's wanted to be a more 'modern' monarch, more open with the public and all that. So that makes it a little more curious as to why they'd tell of the cancer but not of the type and stage.

Maybe it's a treatable type of cancer but is at stage 4, which isn't good but not necessarily an immediate death sentence either. My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in May 2019, almost 5 years later she's still here and under treatment with (so far), favorable results.

I wonder... how much say does the Parliament have over what's revealed to the public? Could King Charles want to give the full details but Parliament want to keep it quiet so it's kept quiet?
