I just don't think there's any reason to rush the contract details at this time. Let him keep playing this season with the contract as an incentive and don't risk negotiations becoming a distraction.

He plays a position that Howie has overlooked for years. It’s nothing to do with the sky is falling and everything to do with the situation and the GM we have.

Once season concludes we have until the start of the new league year (noon on March 12th) with exclusive negotiating rights to get him inked. As @brkmsn, myself, and others have stated previously, no sense trying to do so now and introducing that distraction. The "sky is falling" remark is aimed at your "in all likelihood he’s going to test FA" comment (it is as though you always expect the worst).

It’s nothing to do with the sky is falling and everything to do with the situation and the GM we have. You mean the GM that doesn't value RBs or draft DBs early? His value isn't increasing any more as he has already established himself as an all-pro caliber ILB. The value is what the value is. Knowing that Howie is always working behind the scenes, I would wager that Baun and his camp have probably declined the typical team-friendly Howie-extension and will use free agency as leverage as they should. But by doing so, it makes no sense to extend him at this point until you're sure he doesn't suffer a major injury that causes him to miss any portion of next season. It's best now to wait and see if he remains healthy and then get the deal done after the season ends, but before the next new league year. As far as leverage, the Eagles could use the franchise tag to extend a negotiation period for a long term deal.
January 5, 20251 yr Whoever bumped this up with their response...go f yourself lol.....I literally saw this thread and thought they had extended him!
January 5, 20251 yr When this happened we were all assuming he was a special teams guy and maybe a one year starter. But hopefully they have found a stud that will be here for a few years.

But Baun has just been out of this world good.
January 15, 20251 yr Would love for him to win DPOY but I think that makes it that much harder to sign him.. I say he needs to be our top priority signing.. becton… I love his story think he made some lifelong friends and would love to keep him but if he gets paid great for him. We have steen and feel next year is either time to play him or trade him. Sweat … worked out better then projected for us solid season but I would be fine trading for a replacement or drafting someone. Williams… again would love to keep him but he is gonna get a big deal.. Ojomo has done well and hopefully takes another leap heading into year 3… I’d like to re sign Thomas booker felt he did well in limited action and also add a draft pick. Baun — major upgrade at lb for us this year. With dean injury without signing him we would be starting two new lbs for most of 2025. It seems hard to find lb’s atleast for us.

I doubt Howie lets 3 lineman walk to keep 1 linebacker. I think he gets the Baun deal done but, he isnt going to let those 3 walk just to get that deal done. Becton should be one of the priorities dont forget lane needs to be replaced in a year or so. They need RG and RT.

They need RG and RT. We'll see how negotiations go with Becton, but he needs to be a lot better than he was on Sunday. He's had some very nice games, but right now we need him to have his best and that may have been his worst for us. I still think Lane is going to play longer than people expect. He may like and appreciate rest days, but I think he enjoys playing football while he can and will miss playing when he retires. I don't think he'll hang on like JP once his skills decline, but I bet he'll keep playing and at a high level until at least age 38. So I'm against the idea of drafting his replacement until he at least indicates he's close to the end. The funny thing about Lane was he was drafted to be JP's eventual replacement at LT as JP was 30 and coming off an Achilles injury. Peters returned and had 4 straight Pro Bowl seasons including 2 All Pro and that's how Lane became a fixture at RT.

Normal everyday people that aren't financially set for life still find a way to spend time and be there for their kids. But we don't all have the opportunity to make sure our kids' financial future(s) are secure and players like Lane do. So that's a decision he'll have to make. Kids aren't little for ever, but they're still your sons or daughters when they are adults and there are still opportunities to spend time with them then. Even that article reaffirms what I believe he'll do. He says he believes he can play at a late age like JP and nobody works harder to keep in playing shape than Lane. JP sure didn't. He also says "2,3, or 4 more years." I just think, you know, he's been through the divorce and now football is kind of what he's married to. Being part of a professional team with the culture this Eagles team has is a special gift for someone that had to go through something like that with kids involved. He's had to deal with his own anxiety and this organization has been very supporting of him. So I just don't think he'll step away from playing while he still believes he has time left in his playing career clock. Because once you leave, you'll probably never get the opportunity to do this ever again. That window closes as time advances. My prediction is also based on him avoiding multiple serious injuries with lengthy rehab times. Those, obviously can force a decision sooner than planned.

Guess it depends where he is in a couple of years and what stage of life his kids are in and the health of his own father. Funny i just got off the phone of an ex boss of mine. Dude worked endlessly and missed his kids entire childhoods and early teen years. So he quit to work somewhere that isnt as demanding of his time, he regrets all the time he missed with them.
