August 8, 20241 yr Author Harold Jackson. Originally drafted by the Rams in 1968, played for the Eagles from 1969-1972. He was traded back to the Rams in 1973 for Roman Gabriel. While with the Eagles... Second-team All-Pro (1972) 2× Pro Bowl (1969, 1972) NFL receptions leader (1972) 2× NFL receiving yards leader (1969, 1972)
August 8, 20241 yr Harold Jackson was traded for Roman Gabriel, yes. But the Eagles also gave up TWO future first round picks in the deal. It was an incredibly lopsided trade, even though Gabriel had a couple of pretty good years here. The Eagles were a very poorly run franchise in those days. Wasn’t until they hired Vermeil that they began to have a clue.

August 9, 20241 yr Good player who unfortunately played his entire Eagles career on lousy teams. I know he ended up going to the Cardinals at the end. I think they had already started their slide from being reasonably good in the mid seventies. Over the years the Eagles have had some good safeties and he certainly qualifies as such.
August 10, 20241 yr Author Irv Cross. Drafted in the seventh round out of Northwestern in 1961. Went to 2 Pro Bowls while with the Eagles.
August 10, 20241 yr My father thought Irv Cross was overrated. But knowing my father’s evaluations of players over the years, I have to conclude that Irv was probably pretty good. I always enjoyed that when Irv was on the CBS pregame show with Brent Musberger, he was always rooting for us. That felt good.
August 11, 20241 yr Author Clarence Peaks. 1957 NFL Draft... No worries. Although they missed out on Jim Brown, arguably the greatest player in league history, they drafted Tommy MacDonald in the third round and Sonny Jurgensen in the fourth.

In the second half, Brown was hit in the face by Lee Roy Jordan chasing an overthrown pass. The hit cost Brown three teeth, fractured his jaw, and broke a permanent bridge in his mouth. Jordan's hit--which Brown and his teammates claimed was both a late hit and an intentional elbow toward Brown's mouth--sidelined him for the remainder of the season."
