We are taking our yearly trip to OCNJ just under 2 weeks from now. Planning to parasail. Just today I had the idea to take my 6yo on a chartered fishing trip. He LOVES watching fishing videos on youtube, and has enjoyed fishing in the pond behind our house, the lake in the community, and our private lake. I think he would have the time on his life to have the opportunity to catch something much bigger out of the bay or ocean.

Im looking at something short, like his attention span. Though I think this will hold his attention, for the first time I want to keep it short.

I know paco and binky are from nearby. Anyone else as well? Im looking for recommendations on good family/kid friendly charters with short trips.

Right now Im looking at Icon Fishing and Watersports, or Allyn's Ocean City Wee Cat Charter. Anyone familiar with either of these or any others to recommend?

Dude, I told you that you need to trademark that.  Every time you post "wrong" there should be the little "TM" next to it.  Get on that.  Now.

I don't know of anything short.....  The dolphin watching thing today was 2 hours long and even toward the end they got a little tired of it.  The oldest is 9 and the youngest is 6.

If you want to do fishing for kids, here is a fond memory of my grandfather:  When I was little, my grandfather use to take me to a hatchery that allowed us to "fish'.   If memory serves me correctly (I was around the same age so...), we'd go there, catch like a dozen fish, and call it a day.  I had the time of my life and thought I was like the worlds greatest fisherman.

I honestly don't even know if that is still a thing (or even was a thing and my grandfather called in a favor to let us do), but may be the perfect angle if you can work it.

Just thought it might be a good first step to teach him the basics and build their confidence.

As for real fishing... I'll bow out and let the real fisherman weigh in.  (If you want, I can text my one BIL and get his 2 cents.  Dude knows how to fish and taught his daughter how to fish at 4)

Thanks.

Im not a fisherman. I was always bored by it. Both my parents love to fly fish. Theyve taken him fishing a few times over the last 2 years. My son catches those little sunnies all the time. Theyre like 4'' and honestly hes fine with that.

But he watches a ton of animal and reptile videos, and fishing videos and I know he would be beyond thrilled to land something much bigger like maybe a flounder.

I did see that the two charters I named have 2 hour trips and supposedly kid friendly.  Just was wondering if anyone knew if they were any good or could recommend another one.

Just like his mother, eh?

what's the longest flight you folks have been on?

since our vietnam trip for next month was cancelled due to the trump flu, we're now shooting for 2022 hoping things will be back to normal by then.  we've looked at some flights & it will take around 22 hours to get there...that's with 1 layover.  :meh:  i'll probably have to take something to help me sleep since i have trouble sleeping on planes.

Hawaii clearly cancelled but moved by Hyatt points from there to Lake Tahoe for a couple of days

There's a house for rent in Sandbridge, VA Jul 4-11th, if anyone is interested.  I'll get a refund if someone books it.  Realtor said it's the last property they have open.  It has been discounted, you would have 24 hrs. to sign the lease and make payment in full.  HELP 'ol Di out!

Here's the link, check it out!

Hope you can book it to get a refund. Good luck!

Newark Cape Town round trip.  15 hours, but in business on the way over...not so bad with a flat bed and open bar.  15hr 45min on the way back in coach was excruciating.  We hit a rough patch for the last 2.5hr of the flight and I was about ready to jump off the plane.

Only 6ish. My friend has flown to sections of Asia 6-7 times now as well as Germany. He just loads up movies and tv shows on his tablet/laptop and just tries to work through those backlogs.

Did a similar distance flight to Thailand.  Where's the layover?  Emirates had a huge number of movies/games/TV shows built into their system to help take the edge off. Food was pretty solid as well. It sucked but not as much as I thought it would.  Definitely get something to help you sleep though

I know people that take flights to India to visit relatives.  I'm not sure exactly what they do.  I think it's tons of movies.  Sometimes these people bring kids, which must be excruciating for all involved.

What are the best state parks in the US?

Are there any Colorado or mountain state-based regional fast food chains to check out while I'm on the Front Range?

Not sure about fast food but Denver is known for its green chile - there are several places that claim to have the best. They also have a pretty robust Mexican food scene.

Why is Denver known for that?  Chile has always been a New Mexico thing.  Has that migrated farther north?

I don’t know - but it was a huge thing when we lived there

I did some research.  What are your thoughts on these places?:

Good Times (burgers)

Santiago's (Mexican)

Illegal Pete's (burritos)

Tokyo Joe's (Asian)

Snarf's (sandwiches)

Garbanzo (Mediterranean)

Good Times and Santiago's seem worth stopping and trying.

Here is a blog post that talks about it a little - doesn’t really explain why it became a thing though other than crockpot convenience and skiing

Also I’m sure you already know but it’s also know for thousands of breweries - you can barely go a block without finding one. Cider breweries too. The food scene in the city of Denver is really good.

I’ll have to ask paco about Good Times - I don’t remember if we ever ate there. We loved Snarfs for lunch - especially being far from a good east coast hoagie. Illegal Pete’s is good but I don’t think it far surpassed Qdoba or Moes - it’s kind of the same thing. I think there was a Tokyo Joes on the 16th Street Mall but again can’t remember if we ever tried it.

Well with Portugal being a no go now, trying to plan a last minute weeklong domestic eastern US honeymoon for July 25th. Any recommendations for places driveable from philly? Probably do not want to visit florida
