Leaving Sunday for Europe for two weeks. Paris (including Disneyland because I’m a Klingon) Antwerp, Netherlands then about 30 hours in London

I'm leaving July 4th for Northern Michigan, the Upper Peninsula, and then down to four nights in Chicago

Stop in Buddy Guy's Legends in the Loop to see one of the last great Mississippi bluesmen alive perform.  I wish I had stopped by when I was last in Chicago.

Thanks for the tip. Tons to do in that city. I’m dragging the wife to Wrigley as I’ve never been but the rest is up to her. She is an architect so we will see lots of buildings no doubt :-)

edit: I did a bit of research and it might work one night for the James Armstrong Band.  Have to convince the wifey.

Definitely lots of great architecture there.  I'm into that stuff myself.  The river and lake boat tour is a nice way to see a lot of buildings without having to walk so much to see them, and on a boat means good unobstructed views.

Sometimes, but not much. Remember, I live in Delaware, so I try to spend time outside of Delaware when I have a chance.  I'm also a geographer, so I have a little database of interesting things (sometimes to me) to see in all sorts of places.  I may be an idiot at a lot of things, but when it comes to travel and geography, I'm the best!

Visited a friend (from college) out near Madison where he has lived for 4ish years now. For a small town (and even one NOT in a college session at the moment), their bars are always filled with hawt chicks.

Then next Friday I travel to Vegas that has all the hawt chicks mixed in with 300lb wildebeests trying to dress like they are hawt chicks.

Just got back from a week in Ocean City MD.

Meh.

They have Grotto pizza there right?

Yep.  Didn't go, we were staying on the Boardwalk so we got our pizza up there.  De Lazy Lizard was a fun place, expensive but on the bay.  Same with Seacrets.  Pickles Pub was a local joint that was a lot of fun, wings were "Best in Ocean City", I had them one night, they were pretty damn good.

I'm not typically a Chicago style pizza fan but if there is some place I should try then someone let me know.

The original Pizzeria Uno is in River North.  Pizzeria Due is the second location, if I remember correctly.

But, Pequod's at 2207 N. Clybourn Avenue in the Sheffield neighborhood is a deep dish place and has shown up on lists of the 100 best pizzas in the US.  The pepperoni & sausage pizza is most notable, from my notes.

They say the best Chicago hot dog is at Navy Pier, but I don't know much about Chicago hot dogs.

Sun Sub is a good place to get a Gym Shoe sandwich, which is a Chicago specialty that flies under the radar, like roast pork in the city known for cheesesteaks, or beef on weck in the city known for chicken wings.

The brownie was invented at the Palmer House Hotel, which is still open as the Palmer House Hilton. It was invented for the 1893 World's Fair.  I think the current hotel was built in 1925, replacing a hotel on the same site with the same name from 1875, but I may be wrong.

Great tips!  I've had Pizzeria Uno albeit in Virginia.  It was ok.  Pequods could get some interest and if so then sausage/pep is definitely in my wheel house (for pizza only of course).

I'm not so sure about the Gym Shoe.  I looked it up to see what it was all about.

I only mentioned Pizzeria Uno because the original location apparently still has pretty good pizza.  The reason it became a chain is because the pizza made at the original location is so good.  I don't want to say it's the one pizza place to go to, and you may want to ask locals if it's worth going to, but it pulls more than its weight for an original chain location.  It's not like eating at the original McDonald's or original Dunkin' Donuts or something, which is just a historic building with the same regular food.

the wife & i had pizza at the navy pier a few years back & it was f'n amazing...giordano's.

Hahaha…those were 2 of the best dishes I’ve had in a very long time.  The first was a fish ceviche with some hot peppers for kick and toasted corn kernels…really creative and lots of flavors going on.

The second was probably the best steak tartare I’ve ever had, just edging out a couple from Rome and Florence.

I also saw a family with a young girl in a very aged Jeremy Maclin jersey.  They weren’t American and I didn’t get a chance to ask…but that was out of left field.

Looks amazing 45!!

Let me know if you see a plastic surfer toy wash up.

My son tossed one in to the waves yesterday and it never came back like it's supposed to.  It got pulled out to sea.  You're pretty much directly across from us in NJ.

Leave for Turks and Caicos Saturday. :groovy:

Anyone been?
