I've been on a few cruises and have started to sour on them over the years, but we got a smokin' deal on the one coming up in October so we decided to just do it and take the kids again. Like I said, they absolutely loved the first one they went on so it's basically all for them. Just can't fathom cruises will be up and running by October, let alone cruises out of NYC. I don't want anything to do with it even if it is running. TBH, I think that whole industry is in major trouble anyways. Just outta curiosity, Dawk, what do you consider a sweet deal for a cruise? I have next to no idea what a good price range would be (obviously it depends on where you're going etc etc).

On the cruise that's booked for October, we got the kids sail free promo (you still have to pay the port taxes/fees which are like $150 per kid). They also threw in 40% off the second adult fare and a $250 on-board credit. So when it's all said and done, the fare for our family of 5 is around $3g. For a balcony room on an Oasis class ship, that's really good.

I just paid the final deposit a couple weeks ago as we had a couple options: 1. Cancel the trip prior to paying the final payment, getting a credit for a cruise through 2021 on what we paid (we’d have to pay $100 change fee that would go towards the credit, and lose our $225 insurance fee that we paid). 2. Pay the balance. We can cancel the cruise up to 48 hrs prior to sailing for a full credit to be used through 2021. If the cruise gets cancelled though, we can either get a full refund or likely 125% credit of what we paid towards a future cruise. we went through that. it actually worked out better to take the refund. RC is just making it sound more attractive to take the future cruise credit so they can keep some cash on hand. They dont want to issue refunds in these tough financial times. But we took a refund and then re-booked.

April 25, 20205 yr Author For the travel thread....I'm booking a vacation for April 2021 somewhere without wifi or cell service the second they release the dates of next year's draft.

April 28, 20205 yr COVID willing, I'm going to be taking a trip to Fairbanks, Alaska this Sept to try and see the northern lights. If we don't see them, we'll at least get so see some of the wilderness and Denali National Park/McKinley (no, not climbing it). Planned around the equinox since the data says that the Borealis are more active in that time frame, both Spring and Fall. Next year Greece is on the agenda for my 5 year wedding anniversary?

Great white water rafting there. If you want to get close to the base of Denali, you have to take a specific route in the park. Be sure to plan it advance. The railway from Fairbanks to Denali is a great trip.
April 29, 20205 yr Still waiting to find out when we get to go to Ireland. My wife and I did book a trip to Montana for Sept just to do a bit of sight seeing. On 4/25/2020 at 3:23 PM, Toastrel said: Sunset Cliffs, San Diego Good to see you around again
April 29, 20205 yr Schmoopie and I went to our beach condo last weekend. Even thought I spent 80% of my waking hours on the floor laying\grouting tile, it felt like a damn vacation. Before that I haven't been more than a half mile from my house since early March.
