September 16, 20241 yr Author I’ve never been to Asia, but the Amalfi coast is, by far, the least driveable place I’ve ever been in my life.
September 17, 20241 yr had a private driver for amalfi...no driving. and the eagles lost to the Jets when I was out of the country last year...and just lost to the f'n falcons this year. wtf

September 19, 20241 yr Anyone have any experience with in flight meals on American Airlines? I have to choose for my flight this weekend and am thinking I should just play it safe with a fresh fruit bowl. There was also a mushroom, leek, and asparagus frittata but I don’t eat fungus so it’s down to these two choices.

If I ate that breakfast enchilada on a flight and had a window seat, it would be death to everyone within a 30 ft radius.

September 24, 20241 yr Heading to Barcelona end of next week. We have a large Villa rented in Cadaques up in Costa Brava. Old college friends and spouses. Going to a La Liga game in Girona, taking in the Dali house, a half day kayaking at sea, wine tasting one day, etc. The group is too large but it will work out one way or the other. We have a chef coming in to make dinner one night.

September 24, 20241 yr travel related question for all....what's the longest flight you've taken? and how the f did you survive it? my flights to/from italy were around 9 hours & it was brutal. i'm on the taller side so we upgraded to seats with more leg room. but just sitting there that long absolutely sucked. yeah, i watched some sheety movies to keep myself occupied but the flights were still long af. (i'm unable to fall asleep on planes so i'm sure that's part of it.)

I think 6 hours is still my max -- California from either NYC or Philly... maybe both actually.

My answer is try to sleep and hopefully it's not a full flight so you can sprawl across multiple seat. Also hope the guy next to you doesn't have night terrors. That was fun

That was fun My former work homie (she now is working for her dad with plans to take over his business once he retires) was flying to Paris when her mom had a full on seizure mid-flight (overnight). Sounded fun. Luckily one of the nearby seats was a nurse and they got her stabile and she remained without issue the remainder of the flight into Paris.

Zero alcohol, lots of water, book, work on laptop, melatonin. Some flights had an internet connection which made it ok as you could surf, post on the EMB, etc.

My longest flight was 13 hrs. to Hawaii, back when I was in my 20s and you could still smoke on a plane.
September 26, 20241 yr I can only fly first or business for international flights. I’m a bougie little brat but I can’t be sandwiched in with the unwashed masses for 9+ hours

September 26, 20241 yr For anyone going to the Grand Canyon, I recommend flying into Albuquerque, which is about 5 hours away (farther away than Phoenix or Las Vegas), and driving west, hitting a lot of National Park Service sites either directly or indirectly along the way: Petroglyph N.M. in Albuquerque, El Maplais N.M. and El Morro N.M. off the Interstate in New Mexico, Petrified Forest N.P. right on the Interstate in Arizona, Walnut Canyon N.M. right off the Interstate in Arizona, Sunset Crater Volcano N.M. and Wapatki N.M. off the Interstate in Arizona. All of these are on the way to the Grand Canyon (at least the east entrance or North Rim) from Albuquerque, and there are other National Park Service sites farther away: Chaco Culture N.M., Vermillion Cliffs N.M., and a couple more.

(i'm unable to fall asleep on planes so i'm sure that's part of it.) My longest flight was Newark to Cape Town, March 2020. On the way back, we flew from Kruger National Park to Cape town (~2.5hr) and connected Cape Town to Newark (~15.5hr). On the way over, we flew United Polaris. On the way back, we flew economy. At that point, COVID had spread through the world (while we were on safari away from all the fuss) and we had to fly back wearing face masks into sheer chaos. It was a very turbulent 15.5 hour flight. I'm 6'4" and had my knees in the seat in front of me the whole time. That flight gave me a fear of flying. 15.5 hours of wanting to jump out the emergency exit. Not to sound bratty, but any flight over 3.5 hours, I can only do Business/First with lay flats and generous drink service. Any time I fly over an ocean, I need to go both ways in the good seats with the good service. 9 hours to and from Europe is a lot more manageable in the lay flats. The ability to erase 4+ hours off a flight by falling asleep is priceless.
