Bora Bora?   I would love to go there.

I hope to travel here soon:

I tried to cheat by looking up the name on the ferry....didn't narrow it down.

Damn where is that?

Sao Miguel, Portugal.  One of the Azorian islands smack dab in the middle of the Atlantic.  Lots of volcanic activity with crater lakes, water falls, hot springs, even a volcanically heated tidal pool, but somewhat temperate with really cool old architecture using the volcabic rock. Think Hawaii meets Ireland but Portuguese food and culture.

They all speak English since that's the defacto language wherever European tourists tend to go, but it's not super well know to people in the US. Not overly crowded.  Less than 5 hour flight out of Boston, 6 out of NY I believe.

Not my picture (one above was) but here's the main city Ponta Delgada

Well that’s added to the bucket list.

Nice!  I've been to Madeira.  Similar place it would seem.  The mountains in Madeira made me think of being in Peru or somewhere like that in spots.

Ah Madeira is on my list for sure.  I've never been but I get the impression from what I've read/heard Madeiras has nicer weather in general and is more built up, but also gets a bit more crowded.  If you're going to the Azores expecting a tropical island vacation you'll be disappointed but it was still really cool for what it was.

Might try Pico if we go back at some point.  Smaller island but it has a sizable volcano right in the middle and a bunch of vineyards

I went 20 years ago and the only thing that was built up at that point was the main city.

I'll definitely have to make it out there.

We took another weekend trip to our shore house.  Not sure how much beach time I'll get (remodel dependant), but its nice to get out of Chester County for a bit.

Kind of the opposite theme here but if you ever get a chance to spend time in Dubai...don't.  We got held up there on our way our to Thailand for about a day and decided to go explore.  So hot that we basically power walked from air conditioned bus stop to air conditioned bus stop.  Vendors will literally grab you.  Cabs try to cheat you.  If you've got "rent my own private villa and schedule guided desert tours and jetpack rides" money it's probably a cool place to be.  And there were some cool spots looking out over the gulf.  But overall I wish we just stayed in the hotel.

Got married in Cabo last year and luckily was able to golf El Quivira, right next to our resort and built into the middle of the mountain.  This is just an internet photo, but I believe this is hole #5 overlooking the cliffs.  I have to think holes 4 & 5 are 2 of the most beautiful holes on the planet (just serving it up on a platter for WU).  This course had "tequila stations" every 3 holes where everything was free (all kind of food, liquor, and beer).  Cabo was awesome, although I think Probs disagrees.  We stayed at the "no kids" resort.

In fear of the Sea of Cortez, I fired my tee shot dead right, hoping it would trickle down.  That bush is much thicker than it looks.   👀

Na Pali coast? Jurassic park?

Yup.  Had to lie to my wife, then fiance, about the activity we were headed towards until we actually got on the helicopter.  They had no doors, great experience, not for someone with a fear of heights.

Yeah probably not the best choice for someone with a fear of heights.  That coast is stunning though.  Wife and I did the Kalalau trail about 6 years back.  11 mile trail along the Na Pali coast with a small secluded beach at the end.  Camped out there for 3 days.  Absolutely brutal hike but so worth it.

It's beautiful.  We did the same trail...I thought I was going to need to get airlifted out.  Did not expect it to be that rigorous.

RIght? The parts around the cliffs were pretty hairy, but the switchbacks are what killed me.  Had a big steak dinner and barely left the hot tub when we got back.

The trail was hard enough, but the worst part was probably the condition of the people walking back.  Blood, bandages, cuts, limps...I'm shocked I was able to convince my wife to continue.

I'll be happy to go to the store without looking like a thief...

I took a walk yesterday. it was good.

My great-great grandmother is from the Azores and great-great grandfather is from Madeira, another Portuguese colony in the middle of the Atlantic. Great places and awesome people, so I hear. Have not had the privilege yet, but it's on the list.
