Pretty much any of the candidates other than Ramaswamy would have helped the GOP move on. January 2021 was a mistake, but they did have one last chance to hang on to relevancy and blew it. Well, I didn't think the chance to derail him was very likely back when we discussed this a few years back. No matter, they Fed up royally.

The last chance to save it was by moving on from Trump in 2024 and nominating...well, any sane Republican. Any of them would be wiping the floor with Harris. But all of the traditional Republicans who believe in limited government, reduced spending, etc. have been banished from the party. The GOP convention didn't feature (i) the only living GOP ex-President who isn't the nominee, (ii) the former VP or (iii) the 2012 candidates, because they are all now called RINOs and have no place in the party. If Reagan were alive, he'd (i) be 113 years old and (ii) wouldn't be invited to the convention. Where exactly do you think all of these jettisoned Regan Republicans went?

I changed my registration from GOP to Independent around 2012, then to the LP around 2015, and just switched it back to the GOP last year. I will probably switch it to independent at some point.

If they're conservatives, they'd never vote for a guy who wants to "terminate the Constitution", but if they were strictly a partisan, I'm sure they back Trump.

I think there are a lot like you for sure. But I also know a lot that have hung in there...albeit reluctantly. Republican's since Regan have been somewhere between bad and horrible, but it's not like the Democrats are offering a viable alternative if your focus is on limited federal government and responsible spending. I won't start my rant on the desperate need we have for a third party...but in the absence of a viable alternative, its either sit out or pick your lesser of two evils.

July 31, 20241 yr Easy @mr_hunt, I live in California, the definition of a safe state for Democrats. If I lived in a swing state, I'd take 5 shots of vodka and then vote for Harris. Attempting a coup is a deal breaker for me.
July 31, 20241 yr No vodka needed here, I'm voting for Harris without reservation. Trump is a massive sheetstain on this nation's history and I'll do my part to wash it away for good. If that ultimately means I have to pay more in taxes, then so be it.

Trump raised my taxes. Biden raised my taxes. I assume the next President will too. I'm against most of Harris' policy positions, but I still value the rule of law and a functioning Constitutional republic above all else. Plus, I want the MAGA stain wiped away and the real GOP to return. I know it's too late for that, but hell...if Darth Vader could be saved, a man can dream.

Honestly, the frigid reception to Vance should give you some hope. Don't even see that many in MAGA defending him. You can tell they think he's a bad pick. Makes you think that once Trump's gone, they'll have a really hard time pushing the populist fascism without a charismatic mouthpiece.
