After reading Dickerson's statement on the record being broken, I want it to be broken even more now. If not this year by Barkley, then by someone else, just to knock Dickerson off his perch.

Ditto

I just read the article in its entirety.  He was just being honest, imo.  And in the rest of the article he basically said that 17 games doesn’t really matter because he beat OJ’s record with 2 extra games himself.

He can be honest, that's fine. I'd still love to see him knocked down a peg. I remember him trying to blackmail the NFL by trying to organize a boycott of the Hall of Fame until the NFL began paying Hall of Fame players $300,000 a year.

I was glad to see him mention that OJ did it in 14 and he did it in 15 (2,000), so a future record breaker doing it in 17 doesn't give him a place to hide. Players play in the games that the NFL schedules. If 17 games invalidates a record, then 16 should have invalidated records. 14 should have invalidated 12 game records and so on.

So I'll give him credit for not trying to play that card. I still don't like him though.

Yep.  And if you really think about it, the RB position can be brutal to the body over the course of an NFL season.  The fact that a RB can stay fully healthy for 17 games and break the record is a testament within itself, imo.

Another reason I want Barkley to do it because it’s actually another accolade for the Oline

I actually think it's more of an accomplishment in today's NFL than most people believe. The 17th game is a wash. Teams like Dickerson played on actively pursued records and there was no resting players for the playoffs at the end of the season.

Several factors had an effect on Dickerson's record setting season. First and foremost, he was the Rams' offense. He had 379 rushing attempts and the team only had a total of 358 passing attempts (including 1 by Dickerson). He only added 139 more yards receiving for a total of 2244 scrimmage yards. In 15 games, Barkley has had 314 rushing attempts and has added 276 receiving yards for a total of 2114 scrimmage yards. So yes, Dickerson has the single season rushing record because his team lived and died by that sword, but he is only ranked 16th on the all time single season scrimmage yards list (CJ2K is #1 with 2509 scrimmage yards.) Eric also fumbled 14 times in that regular season (1984). How many games in 1984 did Dickerson sit out any of the 4th quarter because of the score? I'm pretty confident Barkley will get week 17 off if it doesn't effect the playoff seeding.  Dickerson's team was one and done in the playoffs that year. The rushing record was the goal.

That wouldn't shock me either, unless it's well within reach, then I think they'll talk about it and maybe even let Barkley make the call.

Yesterday's post by @brkmsn (good stuff BTW) got me thinking about where Barkley might rank with regard to the NFL's all time scrimmage single-season yards leaders (rather than single season rushing yards) and if he by chance has an opportunity at that record should be fall short of the latter.

At 2114 scrimmage yards he actually ranks 44th all time currently (395 yards behind the all time leader ... Chris Johnson with 2509 yards back in 2009).  So it would seem the likelihood of setting that record is about the same as the all time single season rushing yards ... both will largely depend on playing week 18 and on having huge games against both Dallas and NY.  Seems those records are now about as likely of getting the 1 seed.

167 yards rushing today … needs only 101 to break Dickerson’s record.  :flex:

Undefeated in Kelly Green since they brought it back.

Not so fast ...

I'm a little worried the statisticians may review the tape and rule that 6 yard loss a run instead of a pass. It's hard to conclude it went forward compared to where it was thrown and where it was caught.

This is a sports forum, so the Thanks trophy is the version of love react.

Love that attitude and mentality. Be ready to go break it but that’s not the goal.

That makes me think he is already leaning heavily toward not playing Saquon.  I’ll admit with being so close (101 yards to break that 40 year old record) I’ll be quite disappointed.  I want that for him.

A lot of the players want to play and go for the record.
