I remember when Vermeil was the HC, one game in particular, I forget the opponent but it was a playoff game and the defense was blitzing link crazy, the were send 2-3 blitzers at a time on seemingly every play and I was amazed how that OL picked up the blitz every damn time, they knew their assignments.

Not sure if you guys know the story about how Vermeil started coaching, quick recap goes like this, he was a HS teacher and the football coach left, they asked Vermeil if he wanted to coach the football team.  He didn't turn the job down but he knew very little about the game so he went to the library and taught himself every aspect of the game of football, dude knew both sides of the ball as well as special teams.

Picking up the blitz is going to determine the success of the Eagles 2024 season, The coaches and Stoutland in particular should focus on the assignments of the OL on stunts and blitzes, no more giving him a pass on this failure.

Haven't been getting any attention in real life lately? Decided to fix it by calling out Stoutland. I mean it's hard for me to type while laughing @ you.

The first thing I look at in RBs is whether they can pass protect,  Shipley hasn't done well at it this camp.  I look forward to watching him run.  Maybe he's best suited to slot reciever due to his inability to pass block.  We'll see but I don't like reading about how bad he's been picking up blitzers

So many people share blame on the Eagles blitz pickup. Kelce and Hurts were responsible for the line protection last season. Those long developing plays didn’t help. Can’t put it on one person. Hopefully they have made the proper corrections this season.

Yes. F' Stoutland for not scheming adequate check down routes last year.

After watching these pre season games,  even though they don't hold a lot of weight. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say, we've seen more RB screens these 2 pre season games than we've seen all last season combined. RB screens are a huge tool to have to beat the blitz. I have a feeling they will try to get SB the ball as much as possible in the passing game.

Nice try, though ...

We need to find more effective screens especially to backs. So tired of the WR screens that hardly go anywhere.

Let me spell it out for you, by "The coaches" I was speaking of Moore, the OC, Singleton, the RB coach, and Stoutland the OL coach.

Since the majority of the blocking scheme lies on Stoutland with his 6/7 blockers it's a no brainer that he would have the biggest role in blitz pickup, he'd define the assignments of his group with Moore and Singleton filling in any additional blitz help with their personnel.

But no, you find fault with any and everything anyone posts......damn jackarse.

Allow me to enlighten you... All you ever do is whine about our players, whine about our coaches, whine about Howie and whine about anybody that disagrees with you. You post some of the dumbest comments and then get your panties in a bunch when people react to them.

I hate to say it ...But a lot of times ...either Stoutland is overrated, or his pupils are not reflecting his true teachings.  How can entire line start sucking if Lane is not there for even a short time? It is mind blowing. I hope some cohesion appears quickly...Or other teams will blitz the crap out of Eagles and it is going to be a very, very long season.

So you expect to lose arguably the best RT in the NFL and not notice when he is out?

I fully expect other teams to blitz the crap out of the Eagles this next season. What i expect is a marginal change when the best RT in the NFL is not there. Meaning ...When the team knows there is a point of weakness ..somewhere there is a plan for TE or RB to chip a block and aid with some kind of support. Instead of No plan and simply letting a backup fight against a top DE that the other team will throw at the back up. I know this is only preseason...but come the start of the season.. i will be paying extra attention to our blitz pick up. We are going nowhere if we can not pick up a blitz on a consistent bases.

Hurts has already said multiple times that they are doing things against the blitz that they didn't last year and hurts has been going to his check downs and backs a lot instead of taking off.

Optimistic speeches are wonderfulI ..but I would like to see it in action during games. Different and better are not the same things. I am not panicking, but simply address the area of weakness as a concern to be watched. During the draft we passed on number of good offensive linemen to address defense. Too many for my liking during the draft. Surely there will be a drop off especially in the beginning on the season. I hope that the current cast of players will jell and once again be the strength of the team.

While you were most likely exaggerating, you did reference the "entire line sucking" without Lane. That is far from the truth. But I hear you when it comes to helping out an injury replacement. Driscoll was a huge drop-off from Lane in consistency and the scheme should shift to offer a guy help if he is struggling. But that has more to do with the offensive coordinator than the O- Line coach. One of the issues with the Eagles' offense last year is that the passing game was designed to go almost entirely through Brown, Smith, and Goedert. When Lane is out, Goedert should be the first guy helping the replacement, but last year, that would have meant taking away 1 of the 3 targets.

Last year Lane was inactive for 1 game and that was against Buffalo (which we won) and he missed a majority of the game vs the jets (which we lost). Driscoll played better vs the Bills and that probably had a lot to do with being prepared to play that game. He came in vs the jets and looked like trash. That tells me Stoutland really isn't the issue.

I am glad that Driscoll is not here. But as I reed the depth chart...Darian Kinnard is listed as the back up at RT. Did not know much about Kinnard before today. I am reading from Kansas city that he was a 5th round draft pick in 2022 who was projected to be a guard in the NFL. Chiefs tried him at T and he failed miserably. So they let him go. I wonder what made the Eagles think, that this dude can play RT at all..yet be listed as a second team ??? Sure it did not cost Howie anything to pick up someone's failed experiment...But his value as a RT for the Eagles???.is suspect. To be continued.

Eagles were terrible at picking up the blitz last season. Unlike @Godfather’s mother who is insanely easy to pick up

Why are you talking about mom like that?

also because the Eagles have a starting RB, and are using a slot by committee approach and Moore likes to use 2 RBs.   But he's got sufficient weaponyness to play in the slot,  which is really the Left Halfback position.   Vic Fangio explained that nickle corner was basically a 4-3 linebacker.   When the Left Halfback, or running back,  calling today's running back a former fullback.  A qb in the shotgun today next to the running back was the tailback/qb next to the fullback then, or 1944 Lions (color footage).    Shipley could be one of the extra players for the 6th position.   His blocking from the backfield might not be good yet, but I would think that his screen pass blocking would be pretty good.   Goedert and Shipley blocking for D Smith.  That should work ok.
