They made a decision they wanted draft capital. The Eagles wasted draft capital on Dotson not because he stinks. Because Hurts won't throw the ball to anybody but the Big Three even when two of The Big three aren't playinjg. I live in the DC area and I can tell you that Dotson was on the bubble at best here. The current coaching staff did not believe he was catching onto the playbook fast enough. Here in Philly this guy was asked to learn a new playbook, and to play a new position all together. He wasn’t a slot guy with the Commies. On the Eagles, Dotson is the fourth to fifth option at best. This season for whatever the reason the Eagles opted to run more and pass less. When you factor everything in to me it makes a lot of sense why his numbers don’t equal the same output it did in DC. I think his numbers will improve next season with Hurts getting another season in the same offense with the same coordinator, him also getting an off-season to learn the playbook and his position in the slot, and a likelihood of him getting a chance to become a legit third option of this team replacing Goedert.

January 14Jan 14 Eagles don’t pass a lot and he’s 3rd option at best behind Smith and AJ. Maybe 4th if you count Goedert. Not a lot of opportunities. Not sure what people expect from the guy.
January 14Jan 14 Think the Giants game showed he has some game to him. He just wont get many looks with Brown, Smith, Goedert and even Barkley being ahead in the pecking order. He just needs to make plays when the ball comes to him

I'm assuming he just believes the impact of the trade is equal. Tate was a good WR that we didn't need. We already had three slot WRs on the roster when we traded for Tate and inserted him into the slot. We were missing a field-stretching deep threat, so that move was a head-scratcher. Dotson can be a very solid WR3 on a team that passes enough to utilize one, which we just don't do. So in that sense the trade for Dotson can also be labeled a head-scratcher. But what I personally like about Dotson is he can play anywhere as WR you need him and he's still playing on a rookie contract. Maybe next season we can strive toward a little more run/pass balance and find a way to get him more involved.
February 15Feb 15 Dotson showed some promise in limited opportunities in the playoffs.. We get him for another season the only downside is he and the rest of the eagles will likely be learning another new offense with Moore now gone. the trade eagles traded #79, #238, #250 for Dotson and # 166

I agree 100% with you and @pgcd3 I was merely pointing out that we could have him under control for another year if we really wanted to go that route. I think it is more likely he rides out this next year as WR3, walks in free agency the following year, and we get a comp pick the following draft.

That or howie does howie things and trades AJ to the patriots for a combination of draft picks and gives Dotson a chance to compete for #2 wr
February 16Feb 16 I'm not sure how anyone is seeing future upside for Dotson. Including his three catches in four games in the playoffs, he had a total of 22 receptions for 269 yards in 21 games in his 3rd year in the NFL in an offense that could have used more production from its 3rd receiver position. I'll be surprised if they do not bring in someone new to take his position. He might stick on the roster, but I doubt he plays much next year.

Yeah I agree. I think he suffered a bit from both the run heavy scheme and Hurts liking to throw to his main targets. He had 90 yards with Pickett with the starters out and hopefully with a full offseason with Hurts he can get up to the 500 yard plus and 4 TDs range which he has shown before. No way we can consider that 5th year option though.

February 16Feb 16 I am fine with our WRs as they are. If a guy like DeVante Adams wants to ring chase for vet minimum then they should listen. No need to go after another Julio Jones though like Hopkins, etc. Personally I'd love to see Mack Hollins come back but that's just me.

If they wanted more production from that position, all they had to do was throw it more often in his direction. It's not like he was dropping passes or failing to get open. He was just an afterthought in the weekly gameplan. I actually think next season we will strive to be closer to a 50/50 run to pass ratio which should add a couple additional targets per game for somebody.
