Just wait - you'll be crying crocodile tears when the Eagles need to cut or jettison star players to meet an ever shrinking cap.  True ignorance is believing that things are static and just keep continuing in the same trajectory.

In case you hadn't noticed, MLB and NBA ratings are way down.  And when the only audience for professional sports is on TV at the moment, that is a harbinger of bad things to come.

Don't be an ignoramus and think that because you agree with the kneeling that it won't affect viewership.

NBA Ratings Crash: Why are NBA and MLB ratings at an all time low after ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests

The NBA ratings crash has resulted from players, coaches and referees taking a knee during the national anthem and wearing a ‘black lives matter’ shirt

The NBA has been taking steps against the systematic oppression and racial injustice against coloured people in the United States. The Black Lives Matter movement is one example among many other such movements. These have been organised by teams and players of both the NBA and MLB

However, these movements could have caused the ratings for both the leagues to drop in their respective restarts.

NBA Ratings Crash

Outkick reported that the return of the NBA on TNT saw the following numbers:

Lakers-Clippers: 3.4 million
Pelicans-Jazz: 2.1 million

Celtics-Bucks (6:30p) – 1.3M
Mavs-Rockets (9p)- 1.7M

All NBA players, coaching staff and referees(barring a few exceptions) have taken a knee during the national anthem before the game. The move has been seen as a way to spread awareness about the Black Lives Matter movement.

However, a lot of fans feel that kneeling during the national anthem is an utter disrespect to the government and the military that protects the country.

Hence, a large section of the fans have asked to boycott the NBA, for promoting a ‘political’ agenda, when all it should be doing is, sticking to the sport.

Social Justice Messages on NBA Jerseys

The NBA has come up with multiple ways to maximise spreading the message against racial discrimination. Both the players and administrators have constantly voiced their opinions about the discrimination that has been taking place against coloured communities. They have also come up with multiple methods to increase awareness on this subject.

During the NBA 2020 restart, many of the players opted to have a word or a message written on the back of their jerseys. The teams and players also kneeled during the national anthem during the restart.

MLB Ratings suffer a dip too

It is not only the NBA Leagues ratings which have dropped. Major League Baseball (MLB) has also rallied to create awareness against the systemic oppression and racial discrimination in the country.

An educated guess would be that both these leagues’ active outspoken involvement in the fight against racial oppression and prejudice has caused the rating to drop.

Ethan Strauss of the Athletics posted on Twitter stating, "MLB really fell off after opening day. In general, both leagues aren’t getting the audience one might expect from a nation that’s been deprived of entertainment for months.”

The NBA and MLB are doing their best to help provide their players a platform where they can spread messages to end racism. However, fans have taken very kindly to it. With ratings crashing like crazy, it will be interesting to see, how both the NBA and MLB tackle social issues from here on.

Just wondering, if enough players op out or come down with Covid-19, will consolidation - like during WWII - be necessary?

GO STEAGLES!!!

Yeah this is not the best time to determine if it's a kneeling issue or sports sucks without fans issue for people not watching. I know I hate both of those sports without fans and baseball had to cancel how many games because of the virus.

The NBA is doing a bubble with 22 teams, the NHL is doing two bubbles of 12 teams.  This would be doing bubbles of four teams with the only movement as I would do it being where a team goes to the opposite conference division bubble for two weeks to play "road" games against the opposite conference on back-to-back weeks.

Why have the bubble if you travel outside of it?  That's when you would get the positive cases.

This has been my thinking all along. If they play, I'll watch. And they aren't going to lose a large chunk of the fan base. Kneeling in 2016 and kneeling are two different scenarios. Some will tune out, but not enough that it will make a huge dent in the ratings. NFL games will still have the highest ratings.

Oh I'll still watch it. I'll watch with fascination as it'll be very different. But it'll also be very hard to predict and so if for example the Eagles have a really bad year I won't necessarily think it's because we are a bad team or we are trending in the wrong direction.

Four teams is easier to manage.  It would work where if you have to go to "bubbles" a team only travels out of the bubble ONCE for its two road games in the corresponding division's bubble and has its two "bye" weeks the week before AND week after those two games (and where possible, the second games of such "roadtrips" are Thursday games so when the teams return to their regular "bubbles," they can be tested more easily and so forth.

I doubt the NBA having lower ratings had ANYTHING to do with kneeling.  Their games were airing directly opposite MLB games on FOX.
