Posted August 1, 20204 yr Over in the Around The NFL second, I noted an emergency pandemic realignment idea the NFL may need to do to assure we actually have a 2020 season where teams would play the bulk of their games as close to home as possible For the Eagles, this would for 2020 only put them in a division with what used to be the Redskins (now Washington FC) and the Ravens and Panthers who they would play four times each while playing one game each against an AFC East division of the Pats, Jets, Giants and Bills (Cowboys would be in the NFC South for 2020 in this format). This would also include Philly being the NFC East "bubble" city while The Meadowlands would be the AFC East "bubble" city. This is based on the problems MLB is having with their bubble to where on Monday the season may be canceled.
August 1, 20204 yr That isn't gonna stop the spread of the virus still to many players coaches and staff involved in every game and 3 of those cities are hot beds already and you are not going to keep 400 players and coaches in a bubble in a city for 6 months.
August 1, 20204 yr Author Even without the bubble, main purpose of any such realignment is to reduce traveling as much as realistically possible.
August 1, 20204 yr Author Without the bubble, since in this format you'd be playing teams in your division four times, it could be set up where you play the same divisional teams on back-to-back weeks in the same city so a team only has to travel there one time (perhaps with as much as possible the second game of such serving as Thursday Night Football).
August 1, 20204 yr The only safe way to truly protect the players is to cancel the season. That's the sad truth.
August 1, 20204 yr I think there’s a much greater chance at the season getting cancelled than any kind of realignment. Highly doubt anyone in the league office would consider such an idea.

Or delay it to January with a June Super Bowl for one year, then 11-month league years with the season starting one month earlier each year until the schedule gets back to normal.

August 2, 20204 yr I almost think at this point if a season does happen it'll be a free pass kind of season. If you're team does badly then COVID will be the reason given. If a team does well that wasn't expected to then COVID will be the reason given by other teams.

Watch the Super Bowl be played by 2 perennially awful teams like the Browns and Redskins.

I'm not sure how far a team travels has much to do with COVID exposure. It isn't like the teams buy tickets on regularly scheduled airline flights. They use buses to isolated terminal ramp space, no security lines or terminal crowds. The airplane is only going to have players and team personnel. They could easily require the flight crew to be screened prior to the flight. The buses and airplane can be sanitized prior to the team boarding. The exposure is once the players get to their hotel. For starters, don't be going to any strip clubs, dumb a$$. Or any other places where there are crowds being stupid. they can't eliminate 100% of the risk but they can certainly reduce it. It does require pampered 20somethings to not behave like pampered 20somethings.

It's because they don't care about anything other than themselves. I know it's somewhat off topic, but Cespedes from the Mets just packed all his crap up and left in the middle of the night and didn't tell anyone. The team had no idea where he was, and they found out through his agent in the middle of their game the next day. Why can't these a-holes just act with some common decency??

Neither common decency or common sense is as common as we'd like, I'm afraid.

Cespedes has been a bit off. He suffered a serious injury falling off a horse which is partially why he missed so much time (Mets did get most of his salary back from insurance). Lorenzo Cain pulling out was a bigger concern as well as the way some of these other behaved, especially the Marlins. And now, several Cardinals reportedly have tested positive who did not previously.

I definitely don't know much about him, so thank you for sending this. If he's uncomfortable telling his manager/team, then why wouldn't he have his agent speak to the team before the actual game? I am definitely starting to get enraged with all of these athletes that refuse to follow protocol. Weren't the Cardinals reported being at a casino somewhere?
August 3, 20204 yr The NFL chose to go the business as usual route instead of making enough changes to make this season happen.

I'm not so sure what more changes they could of made. They have so many damn people involved in the sport I think any attempts would of been all for not anyways. I do agree though they could of tried something other then just canceling pre season
