I wish this thread had been saved from the original board.  This would be a great time to see if anyone had been right.

Here's something to start things off.  With teams named after minorities now changing their names (most of them, at least), I can see people saying in another 10-20 years that it's racist to have teams only/mainly named after White people: Fighting Irish, Vikings, Celtics, Norsemen (Northern Kentucky U), Highlanders (NJIT), Trojans (USC), Crusaders (Holy Cross), and so on.  They will want more teams named after minorities.

For years I’ve been offended by the little drunk, fighting leprechaun.  Me and my people are lovers, not fighters.

Sure.  Look at the names of hurricanes.  It was apparently insensitive to have names mainly associated with white people, like John or Michael or Sandy.  So now we have names like Jose, or the storm from today: Isaias.  Come to think of it, once white names are retired, and only Latino names are left, will hurricane names be racist, even though people petitioned for more diverse names?

I'm expecting chess to be called a racist game since White gets to move first. If not that, there will be demands that Black should get the first move because, well...because.

Read much?  You may disagree with the premise, but spare the strawman.

Personally, I'm not offended by condoms or Indiana Jones 3.  But if any team is named the Crystal Skulls, I'll join in on all of the rioting.........err............I mean peaceful protesting.

"Redskins” is a racial slur.  That’s the problem with the name.  Let’s at least be honest about that before attacking the Strawmen.

Heh, wow.

Ok, so its not that I disagree, it's that it's an inherently stupid idea and comparison to make.  I know, it takes some brain cells.  The only straw man is in the text of the OP and how the issue of the negative connotation of the team name in question goes conveniently unmentioned.

I predict that the Gamecocks will be safe, because if there’s one thing leftists love, it’s anything to do with cawks.

It was major corporations like Nike and FedEx that made the Redskins change their name, not leftists.  Basically, those companies decided that they would be financially better off if they didn’t support a team with a racist mascot.  I know this is a hard concept for Trumpbots and others obsessed with white grievance politics to understand.  But that’s the way it went down.
