Since we have a home improvement thread, it's probably time for a car or truck thread for anyone who wants to do something themselves, someone who wants to attempt to do something themselves, or needs advice on prices before getting work done at a shop.

I actually have a question myself about a Hyundai Elantra.  The engine has trouble starting sometimes, and I took it down the street for a diagnostic check (because the dealership has such a long wait for an appointment) and they said it was an exhaust cam position sensor issue.  They said something about the phaser as well, and that some pins in the exhaust camshaft may be or were broken as well.  Looking things up, it seems like a camshaft position sensor is pretty easy to replace on a Hyundai Elantra.  Would this solve most engine start issues if I replaced that?  Can I get it at any parts store like Auto Zone?

stop by an auto zone type store. they can run a quick computer diagnostic test to get codes and advise to some degree. should also be able to get part at store also.

they may be also to test the starter. may be. hope it's not that, not the most expensive and can be a DIY but with today's engineers...a **** to get to sometimes.

I stopped by an Auto Zone by my house, and they did a computer test, but they didn't know much.  So I went down the street and got a full diagnostic check and they mentioned the stuff about the camshaft position sensor, and broken pins, and so on.  They said to take it to the dealership.  I'm hoping the extended warranty covers everything.  The car has been leaking oil for about a year now as well, which isn't a big deal if I get it changed at 3,000 miles or a little sooner.

Replace the engine

My uncle owned a garage growing up. When I was 16, I would stop in with my s10 and hangout ever couple weeks. The one day I told him it was making a noise while I drove it. He told me to turn the radio up.

So maybe try turning up the radio?

Have you tried locking it and unlocking it? That'll do it

These are most of the cars I keep here in the states. It was such a hassle to move all my gym equipment and supermodel girlfriends out of these pics. Enjoy!

The top 100 most expensive cars of all time

had to change out the rear rotors and pads on my mother-in-laws car. unfortunately one of the calipers seized up.

what caused the issue? my best guess is it's a ford.

That's what I want to do, and I have an extended warranty. I had another Hyundai where the engine died out.  If this isn't covered by the warranty, it's a deal-breaker and I'm switching brands.

so, truck has an issue already, apparently one that's a known problem with the pentastar engines. the oil cooler housing is made of plastic and eventually cracks and fails.

still under warranty so that's not the problem right now, the issue is it's going to take 5 days to get the parts in? this is as you put it, a known problem. he said is wasn't supply chain issues either, just that it was going to take that amount of time to stock back up.

meanwhile i am stuck in a rental POS, i mean a ford escape.

Oil cooler?  I think you are making this up. Our car doesn’t need oil

I had engine problems with my Hyundai, and everything was covered, but it took almost 3 weeks for all the parts to come in as they slowly worked on everything

I used to be a gas and go sorta gal.  Now I just tore up a tire and since it was a front one just put 2 new ones on.  The tire pressure sensor is broken so I have to remember to periodically check the pressure.  I do know how to check the oil and I've been good about servicing the 2011 Mitsubishi on a regular basis.  Currently in need of new wipers (I can do those too) Drought conditions wreaked havoc on them.  I'm also out of wiper washer fluid.  I still haven't taken care of the rust spots and the headlights-still searching for a good way to be able to see better at night. I really hate doing all these vile things.  Thanks for starting this thread.

I've owned GM cars my entire life, as my Dad worked at a GM Factory here in DE for 42 years. Retired about 10 years ago.

As a family member, I still can get his GM discount (10%) on any new vehicle.

Some models/makes gave me multiple issues (Chevy Blazers), some others were fantastic (Pontiac models/makes).

My current vehicle: Chevy Trax.

SIL and my one employee both had full engine replacements on those POS. Employee and his wife both had them and had replacements.  Oil leaking into engine problems.  Known issue.  Fight Hyundai to death on a replacement. There's years that are complete crap.  SIL had engine replacement and multiple problems since.  She's going lemon law on their ass.  Fight the good fight my dude.
