Since Cooper DeJean was inserted into this defense everyone has looked so much better. Two playmaking linebackers. They’re blitzing. Fangio has these guys on fire.

Both rookies have been amazing so far. They also have a really young core, these guys will just keep getting better as a unit.

Jalen Carter has been a game wrecker in the middle. The bulldogs are doing their thing. This defense just feels like they have playmakers on all levels. When was the last time we could say that about an Eagles defense? It’s been beyond dominating.

It occurred to me (while watching "Top Gun"), that maybe you weren't watching the Eagles when 44-6 happened. Do you know that game?

We went into the final game of the 2008 season at 8-6-1. We needed the 7-8 Texans to defeat the 9-6 Bears and the 5-10 Raiders to beat the 9-6 Buccaneers on the road, then we needed to beat the Cowboys (at the Linc). Winner of the game, would go to the playoffs.

It was also (if I'm not mistaken), Dawk's final game as an Eagle at the Linc.

If you've never seen the movie "Silver Linings Playbook", the Eagles and 44-6 play a role in the movie.

Yeah I’ve seen silver lining playbook once but a fair few years ago. I know it leans heavily in to the Eagles but perhaps the 44-6 game in that movie was missed on me at the time.

Thanks for sharing though as no I wasn’t a fan in 2008, little bit too early for me.

They have completely rebuilt the D while still adding to the offense.

You look at the guys they had on defense when they went to the SB and had that year with a crazy amount of sacks. The line consisted of Sweat, BG, Hargrave, Cox, Reddick and they added guys like Joseph, Quinn and Suh through the season. Williams and Davis were in years 1 and 2. The current line is not on the same level as a collective, but they are still a few years away from their prime and have been getting better as the season goes on.

At LB'er you had White and Edwards, losing Edwards hurt but Howie has managed to bring in Baun on a bargain basement deal and he drafted Dean in 2022 who is starting to come into his own.

At DB you had Slay, Bradberry Maddox, Epps and CJGJ. Blankenship was a rookie and they let CJGJ go before bringing him back. You now have the rookies back there in place of Bradberry and Maddox. Add in Rodgers/Ringo for when Slay goes down compared to McPherson/Scott.

Is there an argument to say this D is perhaps better overall than the 2022 D? The DL definitely isn’t as good but then it is getting better. And the secondary I think is much better. And in a passing league that may give them the edge on the 2022 version.

After I left the computer, it occurred to me that that might be the case, I think I remembered you saying that you began watching the Eagles around 2010? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else, not sure.

In the movie, they find out about the 44-6 game at the dance contest (near the end of the movie).

Oh, and I forgot to mention, that all of the things that were needed to happen on that final week of the season in 2008, happened. We ended up losing in the NFCCG to the Cardinals <_<

Their previous stadium ALSO had sun glare problems. Jerry Jones loves him some poor stadium design.

Cee Dee complained that he couldn't see on on the TD pass from Cooper that he missed.   Jerry came out and defended the Stadium and "Sunlight" issues.    Keep doubling down Jerry.  Your own team is telling you it's a problem.  I'm not trying to give Jalen a pass, he definitely could have played better that 1st Qtr but the Sun clearly impacted his vision and he was holding on to the ball a lot probably because he couldn't see.  Once the Sun went down, he lit up the Cowboys and made history in the process.

I don’t think the INT is on him on this occasion. Diggs makes a great play and I think Goedert doesn’t do enough on that play. The fumble though there’s no real excuses for it. You know Parsons is in the game and if you can’t see due to the sunlight then you throw it away quickly and live to fight another day.

Yeah Goedert needed to fight a little more on that but Diggs read Jalen the entire way so just give props were props is due.   The fumble was his fault though but I think the Sun effected that play too.  I just think he was having problems seeing the field with that bright ball in the sky.  Even watching the game on TV I was like, "Wow the Sun is shinning directly in their faces."

Ultimately I don’t think Hurts can do much more on the INT. I guess the criticism of him is that Calcaterra was wide open in the end zone so perhaps progress through your reads better? The sun definitely had an impact on the fumble but Hurts has to be smarter there and throw it away.

DOMINATING!

My favorite word in the world, when applied to the Eagles defense.

Goedert was wide open too, diggs baited bim into that throw. How is goedert supposed to do more on a play where he didnt even know diggs was there till he jumped the route?

It’s a fair point. I thought Goedert could have done more to come back to the ball a little. But yeah if he doesn’t know Diggs is there then perhaps that isn’t realistic to expect him to adjust.

Sometimes the defender just makes an amazing play. That's exactly what happened with the Hurts to Goedert throw. He caught it one handed and at full stretch. Nothing could have been done by either guy, the throw was there and it was a TD if Diggs doesn't make the miraculous play

Plus Goedert was running straight ahead the ball came in from the side not over the top.  How is he supposed to just stop and and come back to a ball that is thrown to the side and diggs dove in front of him to make that play? There was nothing goedert could do or Hurts. Like @Mat said nothing either one could do. Trying to find someone at fault for a bad play all the time is annoying part of this fan base lol. It was a great defensive play

To be fair I did say that. I did say Diggs made a great play.

One of my best ever days of being an Eagles fan. Everything fell into place. What a day! And yes, that's exactly why I said 44-6

Watch the highlights on YouTube. I can't embed it here, NFL doesn't allow it, but it was beautiful. Just search 44-6, it's the top result

After that game, I thought they would go all the way that year until Larry Fitzgerald, Rod Hood and Kevin Curtis happened

I still think they would have beat the Steelers in the Super Bowl that year

When a defense holds a quarterback group to under 50 yards passing in a game that’s DOMINATING!

I went into central London to watch that NFCCG. The game finished about 1am. It was snowing. It took forever to get home. I spent the whole journey cursing Kurt Warner. I'm still mad all these years later that DJax didn't get that DPI call on 4th down at the end. And yes, I agree, we would have beaten the Steelers, too

I just ran this question to AI, and here is the answer. Seems Jerry Jones loves him some sun glare problems. 😂

"The "old" Dallas Cowboys stadium, known as Texas Stadium, was notorious for sun glare issues, particularly during late afternoon games, due to its unique design with a large "hole" in the roof which allowed sunlight to directly shine onto the field, often hindering players' vision and causing problems for both the Cowboys and opposing teams; this issue was a frequent complaint from players and fans alike."

Design flaw:
"The open roof design with the "hole" was the main culprit for the sun glare problems."

Impact on gameplay:
Players often struggled to see the ball clearly when the sun was directly shining into their eyes, potentially leading to missed catches or poor throws.

Complaints from players:
Many Cowboys players over the years complained about the sun glare impacting their performance.

great win. Washington is going to be a good test. I haven't seen any of their games but on paper they look pretty good.

Commanders last two games were a hail Mary to beat the Bears, and a loss to the Steelers. They’re starting to doubt themselves right now while the Eagles are starting to soar. For once we have some corners capable of locking down McLauren. Slay is too old and slow to cover that dude.
