I receive international packages frequently and they always zip through customs. Now my packages are taking 2 weeks longer than normal to  pass through customs and be delivered. Is it related to this:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/08/07/postal-service-investigation-dejoy/

Quote

Twenty-three postal executives were reassigned or displaced, the new organizational chart shows. Analysts say the structure centralizes power around DeJoy, a former logistics executive and major ally of President Trump, and de-emphasizes decades of institutional postal knowledge. All told, 33 staffers included in the old postal hierarchy either kept their jobs or were reassigned in the restructuring, with five more staffers joining the leadership from other roles.

The reshuffling threatens to heighten tensions between postal officials and lawmakers, who are troubled by delivery delays — the Postal Service banned employees from working overtime and making extra trips to deliver mail — and wary of the Trump administration’s influence on the Postal Service as the coronavirus pandemic rages and November’s election draws near.

....

It also asks Whitcomb to review the finances of DeJoy and his wife, Aldona Wos, the nominee for ambassador to Canada. The couple’s holdings include between $30.1 million and $75.3 million in assets in USPS competitors or contractors, according to a financial disclosure Wos filed with the Office of Government Ethics when she was nominated. Postal Service mail processing contractor XPO Logistics — which acquired DeJoy’s company New Breed Logistics in 2014 — represents the vast majority of those holdings. Their combined stake in competitors UPS and trucking company J.B. Hunt is roughly $265,000.

Seems fishy that the person in charge of USPS whose service is getting worse also has major financial stake in its competitors.

We did.  I shipped a box from Kennett to Allentown for my mom's birthday.  The box made it to the Lehigh valley distribution center in one day.

It then sat there for 2 weeks.

Same experience here.  I ordered something for a BDay and had to cancel it and go find something else.

We've had vote by mail forever but I've just always dropped mine off at a ballot box location.

They're cracking down hard on OT. Basically almost no offices are allowed to have anyone on OT. So if there's a call off or if the volume is extremely heavy, usually on a Monday, the mail is sitting undelivered until the next day. Obviously that is causing delays. This is all coming down from the top. Previously the mail would all go out no matter how long it took. This all started as soon as Trump's toady got installed.

Post office is long overdue to go away anyway

Yes. I am still waiting on a package that was supposed to be delivered a week ago.

I am hearing mail carriers are not allowed OT. They must stop in the middle of their route if they aren't able to complete it. And at least locally, they are experiencing a lot of call-outs. Either due to illness, or they are calling out in advance of risk of exposure, or the stress is getting to them.... There is a lot working against them right now.

Leave it to the Republicants in charge to ruin a service we were able to rely on for generations.

Agree.   You want to take being green seriously start by going paperless.

No but UPS has been even more sucky lately.

Experiencing much slower service than I was even a year ago. I've always tried to use the USPS when I could but I really can't use it for anything I really reliably need to get somewhere quickly nowadays.

Is the USPS still the #2 employer?

its an outdated, inefficient model that deserves to be disrupted. Tons of taxpayer debt for an unnecessary huge overhead. Everyone will be ok without their junk mail and catalogs.

Oh, what a lovely day that will be when I don't have to worry about junk mail.  Or CC applications.  Wish I could tell all the CC companies to stop sending me their ish and I'll contact them when I want something.  Actually, that's worse than junk mail because I have to shred the CC aps where the junk mail I can throw in the recyclable bin.

And yes, the PO allowed themselves to become outdated and failed to keep up with the times and competition.  Seems like they felt since they're a part of the Federal Government that the people would always need them and their jobs would always be secure.  Well, too little, too late.

And how does this dope get appointment to take over the USPS if he has stock on competing companies?  If this was Wall Street the SEC would be crawling up his arse with a microscope.  Just another example how bass ackwards this country is now.

Oh, did they allow themselves? How'd they do that, themselves?

Republicans have systematically bankrupted USPS. During the GWB adminsitration, they passed a law requiring USPS to pre-fund its retirement packages for something like the next 30 years.

Obviously you’ve never worked logistics in any capacity.

USPS is actually not tax payer funded. And they have the best last mile operation out of everyone, and given the increase in parcels that actually puts them ahead of the curve, not outdated. FedEx Express handles the logistics for them on priority mail and first class mail between their sort centers.  So if you have a problem with your service from USPS then you also have a problem with FedEx Express.

Also I can speak from experience when I say that they treat their commercial accounts great.

The reason why their finances are in the toilet is that FedEx lobbied Congress to mandate that USPS has to fund their pension obligations on the front end.

We've noticed problems here in Houston going back a couple years... but I think that has more to do with local issues.

That being said... we do e-checking and the checks that get mailed from our bank have been taking up to 20 days to clear whereas it used to take a week or so at most. It's almost caused a problem or two with getting payments in on time.

People getting 30-day lates on their credit for bills paid on the 1st is going to be something that starts moving the needle for people.
