August 21, 20205 yr Watching DeJoy now. Can't say I'm seeing or hearing anything that sounds like he's intentionally doing anything to hurt the capabilities of the USPS to deliver mail. What's obvious is they made a serious error adjusting delivery schedules asynchronous from sorting schedules which has screwed everything up. Still haven't heard him explain how he's going to fix that.

August 21, 20205 yr 1 minute ago, Smokesdawg said: interesting DeJoy was able to get into the logistics of how and why we're seeing delays. 1. DeJoy (admittedly) made some really poor decisions with adjusting mail delivery schedules. 2. He didn't realize that those changes would completely decouple the delivery unit from the sorting unit, leading to piled up mail in sorting facilities that didn't make it out to trucks. 3. COVID is wreaking havoc with postal worker availability. That being said, he claims they are starting to hash those issues out now and we should see things go back to normal. Do I wish he was smarter and have even some semblance of forethought? Sure. But he's a Trump appointee which means he wasn't going to be the sharpest tool in the shed. Also, there was nothing about what or how he said it that made me think there was something sinister afoot. It was obvious to me it was pure incompetence. As for the mail sorters being removed, it was exactly as I posited pages ago. They are being moved out to accommodate the more profitable, growing arm of the USPS right now which is parcel delivery.
August 21, 20205 yr Quote COVID is wreaking havoc with postal worker availability I really question that. I mean, COVID is serious for sure, and I can see that argument in certain geographic location .. but are you telling me that enough of your workforce is contracting COVID to impact worker availability here? I'd like to see some numbers, and I'm not calling it a lie straight out because I just don't know, but it does not pass my smell test. That seems like an excuse. 13 minutes ago, mayanh8 said: As for the mail sorters being removed, it was exactly as I posited pages ago. And that part is fair, and supported by the facts to some extent. but the amount of sorting capacity seems to be impacting normal mail delivery, and parcel service seems to be the one falling behind right now.

I'd buy it. 45 minutes ago, JohnSnowsHair said: And that part is fair, and supported by the facts to some extent. but the amount of sorting capacity seems to be impacting normal mail delivery, and parcel service seems to be the one falling behind right now. The delivery flow happens like this... Mail sort -> trucks loaded -> trucks leave facility to begin their routes What this idiot did was have the trucks leave the facility earlier without even considering the first two variables in the equation. He simply saw that mail was being delivered late in the day and said, "Well golly gee wiz this is an easy fix!!! We just need to have the trucks leave earlier!" So the trucks left earlier without half of their mail because mail sorting and dock operation schedules weren't adjusted in parallel. That meant that half of the day's mail was piled up by the loading docks waiting to be loaded on the next day's trucks. So let's fast forward to the next day. The mail sorting guys come in to see a massive pile of mail where it's not supposed to be. They get to sorting today's mail and piling it up on top the existing pile of mail from the previous day. The guys who load the trucks start their day and find they have a mountain of mail from two days and they have to stumble through mail from two different days and try to figure out what needs to be delivered when and where. It all just snowballs from there. It's a complete and total failure of planning and leadership. They created this monster of a problem and now have to deal with fixing it on top of delivering the mail like they always have. The issue here isn't malfeasance. It's incompetence. And the one mark of a Trump run program we've all come to know and expect is incompetence. When you think about it, what happened to the USPS is exactly what Trump did to every one of his businesses. He ran it into the ground through shear incompetence and mismanagement. Example # 834654387... It's always the same story with Trump and anything he gets involved with. ETTD.
August 21, 20205 yr This is the real reason Trump must go away, and DeJoy can leave Washington with him. We need real leaders to take responsibility. No more incompetence. I don't buy all the conspiracy stuff: removing big blue boxes without replacing them, locking them so people can't use them, etc. But this is what happens when things start going wrong. They get piled on. Everything becomes a problem.
August 21, 20205 yr It's not necessarily carriers contracting COVID so as much as it is carriers outright refusing to work in other towns that are hit harder with the virus. I know Hazelton is hurting bad for carriers and carriers from around the greater area are refusing to go work there at all, to the point that a few quit on the spot when instructed to go there.
