Beat the cows, win the East..... early bye

We beat the cows next Sunday. Secure the division and 2nd overall. Use NYG game as a bye week and we already know we're playing the Commies. Sorry Barkley, but your record will take a back seat.

After last week, the record was a long shot anyway. I'm all for the Giants being the bye week.

After today the record is back on. With 150 yards he now needs less than 300. With Jalen a doubt for next week we might well need to play the starters week 18.

Plus the Cowboys have a really bad run defense  Let's hope he can bite a huge chunk out of that 300 yard target and then in the last week maybe they only play him in the first quarter if he only needs something like 50 yards.

Got to win next week first. Dallas may have a bad run defense but if Hurts is out then they will just key in on Saquon. It’ll help them massively knowing they just need to stop him.

If Jalen’s not playing I wouldn’t bet Pickett or McKey could beat the Cowboys. Frankly if Jalen can’t go then treat the Cowboys game like the bye week and rest everyone. Comeback and play the Giants who want to lose anyway.

268 yards away. He'd need 200 yards against the cows for me to be comfortable him playing 1-2 quarters to try and break it against NYG.

Exactly what I just said in the blog.

Cowboys foolishly trying to win right now so they’re going to give us a big game. No matter what the Eagles can’t get to six losses so they’re basically locked up in the number two spot. Keeping the Cowboys alive will also make them give the Commanders a game. I guess if they lose this game tonight though….

This is a crazy thought, and definitely risky, and I don't actually expect this to be done, but an interesting thought at least...

With the talk of a "Week 18 bye", what about a "Week 17 bye"? Let's assume Hurts doesn't clear protocol and can't play against Dallas. What about sitting everyone? Theoretically, the Giants should be easier to beat, they may actually care about holding the #1 overall pick, and just want to get thru the game, and they're just bad enough we may be able to build enough of a lead to sit out the 4th quarter anyway. I could see Dallas wanting to put a physical pounding on us, but the Giants possibly caring less since they have more to lose by winning.

Like I said, I don't see it actually happening, and it's risky, but the idea has crossed my mind, and it's a way to ensure we get a "bye" of some kind.

Your first line is in line with my thinking. I think Dallas will care greatly about winning. By all accounts, they seem to like McCarthy, and they'd love to give us a physical game. Parsons didn't even care when told they needed us to beat Washington to keep their playoff hopes alive. I think the Giants may care more about keeping the #1 overall pick and getting home for the offseason.

Looks like Dem boys got eliminated thanks to our loss. They’re looking to play spoilers though.

Barkley doesn’t care about numbers. I’m sure he’d rather win this week and lock up the 2 seed and the division.

I agree. But if he pops off for 200 against the Cows, I think they'll give him a quarter or 2. It's not just for him, even though his name would be in the record books.

You have to play to win against the Cowboys. It sends out completely the wrong message to put out the backups with the division and number 2 seed on the line. Chances are the Giants roll over, but if they think they are being treated as an automatic win then who knows.

That's really not a bad idea.  Hate losing to Dallas but in the bigger picture may make more sense.  It also eliminates the concerns over coming out rusty following a bye (or in this case having rested everyone in week 18 which serves as somewhat of a bye) for that first playoff game.

Whenever other possibilities exist you have to acknowledge that could result in the less desired outcome, but coming into the final week assuming they are still in position for that #1 overall pick it would be absolutely shocking if they played to win and blew their chances at that coveted draft spot.

Hmm - I’ve seen teams blow high draft picks for meaningless wins before. Plus the QBs at the top of this draft look pretty average.

But either way there is no way they can or should do this. It’s basically telling the team they have no confidence in Pickett and they aren’t confident the Eagles can beat an average Cowboys team with their own back up QB at home.

Get it done this weekend and then rest if able week 18.

Prediction versus Cowboys:

Eagles insert Tanner McKee to take the loss.

Cowboys roll.

Do whatever you need to do to win this game, then treat the Giants game as a bye, IMO.

I don't want us losing at home, to the Cowpigs, with them playing a backup QB, when the Division title is kinda still on the line.

Hmmmmmmmmm, who has the QB advantage, our backup or their backup QB?

Only scenarios where Barkley plays final week is if we lose to cowboys and WAS wins their game, OR both DET/MIN lose this weekend. If that happens, we would get the 1 seed if Vikings beat det in the final week

I'd say theirs since he's been playing for most of the season.

If Jalen can’t play I do think we lose to Dallas though… and I don’t think there’s much chance that Washington lose their game this week.

Cooper Rush is like 10x better than Pickett (and that's being generous to Pickett).

We'll win at home. Defense shows up and Pickett doesn't have a ton of turnovers and we're good.
