Sounds like they are both going to play. I was a fan of the Burks signing and he is a good player against the run. But he got exposed in the Super Bowl against Mahomes and Love successfully targeted him a few times on Sunday.

Trott is a bit undersized but has great instincts and I prefer him in coverage. Hopefully he plays a fair amount and does well.

Yes that is what Vic said they were (likely) planning to do (posted this in the Dean thread yesterday)

I prefer JTJ to Burks.  Burks may have the veteran experience but JTJ has more potential upside IMO.

Trott on passing downs Burks on run downs

I think I'd like Trot over Burks, but I do have confidence that Fangio has a good read on who to start or play more, etc.  It just stinks when you think you have 2 guys with one being better vs. the run and the other better vs. the pass.  Unless the situation is obvious, it's hard to know from down to down if it'll be run or pass.

It will be interesting to see what they do. Fangio is less hesitant to play rookies (or less experienced guys) in the postseason than the Eagles typically have been, so that should bode well for Trotter Jr.

Not to mention the option for the QB to audible before the snap into a different play after he sees defensive personnel/alignment.

Exactly.  I think Trot has the better upside but he's a rookie and will be playing in a high pressure game.  That said, Burks will prob get the "start" and if Fangio sees him getting taken advantage of he may be forced to roll more with Trotter (or vice versa, really). We'll see.  Man, sucks to have lost Dean but good defenses find ways to adapt.

I think mix both in. I think between them they have Dean type traits so it’s all about putting them in to favourable positions.

Hunt seems like he could take some snaps there as well since he played safety. Shame they are so thin at DE

Burks had a rough game, yes.  But, he will see reps in practice with the 1’s.  Next man up, be ready to play, insert cliche, etc, meaning that he should have been ready to play, but knowing you’re starting and getting the practice reps on game week and the coordinator wrinkling the scheme to fit the strengths and weaknesses all have added value.  I suspect and hope he will have a better showing.

Burks will get 80%+ of the second linebacker snaps over a rookie with a recognizable name.

If Trotter Jr. gets a sack, does he pull out the axe and make the crowd go wild?

He was already doing it in college so yes

Play them both at the same time and take bum ass Huff off the field.  Problem. Solved.  😆

Geeze, I didn't realize Johnson was still in the league.  He has had a crazy career (with regard to the total number of teams he has played on).

So was Trotters final sack of his career against Johnson? And then Trotter Jnrs first NFL sack was on Johnson? That’s incredible.

No. That would be cool, but it was just pointing out that he had a sack (preseason game) against a QB his dad also played against.

Oh sorry I didn’t see the date on that tweet! 😂

Sounds great - except that would require exactly one snap!

This isn’t about the name. I like Burks but he gets exposed in pass coverage and Trotter would seem objectively to be the better option on passing downs.

Both have to play. All hands on deck.

Based on exactly what though? There's objectively no evidence to prove that and Burks is the one with experience.  I'd expect him to get the nod with Trotter being worked in occasionally.

I trust Vic Fangio to make the correct decision.

That said, I wanna see JTJ knife through the line and get a tackle for a big loss and do the Axe Man Chop!

I think we'd hear the crowd at the Linc all the way up here in the Poconos.
