Everything you say makes a lot of sense. And if Williams commands that kind of salary then we need to let him go. He’s a good player but probably been made to look better by the attention Carter gets.

My concern is that Davis is currently the 4th DT in the rotation behind Ojomo and Williams. Maybe that’s because we’ve had a lead, but this is the key part of the playoffs, so if we are going to exercise the 5th year option, I would like the confidence that Fangio will play him more.

Ironically, Ojomo and Davis played the exact same amount of snaps in the regular season, but Ojomo's numbers were buoyed heavily by the last two games (a blowout against Dallas and a game where we rested everyone against the Giants). But yeah, Davis plays run downs more often and Ojomo gets more passing down snaps which is why we saw him so much against the Commanders with a big second half lead.

I still think we let Milton walk for a big payday, but it'll be interesting to see if we pick up Davis's 5th year option. I could honestly see them going either way. I'd expect them to try and re-sign Davis regardless, but it is kind of tough to gauge how much he'll end up getting if he hits FA. I imagine they'll let him test the waters a bit, but try to match offers. He's a valuable part of the rotation, especially if we do in fact lose Williams.

Why? Why let M. Williams walk, when this defense needs someone other than Carter who has pass rush ability from inside. Also, M. Williams can rush from the end too. I'm not saying go overboard to keep him. But he is very valuable and an important piece to retain.

I mean, I'd keep everyone if the salary cap wasn't a thing. I just think Williams gets caught up in the numbers game since he'll likely land a big payday and considering we have guys like Davis and Ojomo who are capable of handling more snaps and a superstar like Carter at the position. We also have key pieces in Becton, Baun, and Sweat that are free agents, too.

He’s played well lately in limited snaps. But he’s fighting with Williams and Ojomo now both of which have been making plays as well.

Both of those players have completely different roles. Neither is a NT. The biggest factor in determining playing time is situation.

Look, neither Ojomo or Davis has shown as much rushing from the DT position as M. Williams. He's the one who has done it and done it well. Becton should be leaning on re-signing Eagles no matter. But, I know the cap ramifications and implications. Baun has to be taken care of 1st.

My opinion is these two players are very similar. Williams is an established vet with experience that still has upside. Ojomo is a relatively inexperienced young player that has shown tremendous growth in his 2nd year. One is about to be a top 20 paid DT in the NFL, the other will cost us $1.1M/year for the next two years. If Ojomo was still a complete unknown at this point, losing Williams might really hurt. But because Ojomo is almost a carbon copy of Williams, we can allow our (recent) draft pick to save us money. Waiting for his opportunity as well, is Thomas Booker who has flashed this season in his very limited opportunities.

The Eagles have had an issue with having a reliable pass rush. Milton Williams being a 3rd pick is much more valuable to the Eagles. Something they can say, we developed him/retained him.

Davis has a chance to crush his one on one as they double Carter all game. While they're mostly unsuccessfully trying to corral the Rhino, Fangio must release the Mammoth!
