This year they were the "home" team in Brazil but also had 8 home games at the Linc. They're going to keep doing this, the plan is to have NFL teams in other countries. It's about global expansion and more money. Also btw, there are no "home" games for the Rams because of Los Angeles "fans." So do all teams that are scheduled for 9 "home” games in a particular season play one of those abroad (such that they only play 8 in their own stadium). And then the following year when the other half of the teams have 9 "home” games, they’ll be the teams scheduled for a game abroad?

I had tickets and was all set to go… however I was in Dublin that weekend and my Saturday night flight back was cancelled so I missed the game. To say I was devastated would be a slight understatement. That definitely sucks. On another note, since you mentioned Dublin. My mothers fathers family hailed from Dublin and I still have family there... though none of them are known to us and we're not known to them. My great-grandmother's family was against my great-grandfather marrying her (a social class situation), so they ran away to America (in 1901). The Irish family never forgave her and kind of erased her from the family. So much so that back in the 80's, a couple of her granddaughters went back to meet them, and they still refused to even meet them after all those years. I know you didn't ask for my family tree, but that came to mind when you mentioned Dublin lol. My mother could apply for dual US-Irish citizenship, but I'm one generation too removed from being able to.

There is already London x 3, Munich, Madrid, Sao Paulo, Mexico City, Toronto. Now Melbourne. Tokyo could take one. Croke Park in Dublin is perfect for another. Amsterdam used to be a bastion of NFL Europe. Johannesburg has a big stadium. It makes too much sense for the league to do this and was the only obvious rationale for unbalancing the schedule with the extra fixture. If they're going to do that, they need to add a 2nd bye week. 18 games and 2 bye weeks should not come as a surprise to anyone in the not-too-distant future. Plus the NFL could extend the season by a week so $$$.

I'm not arguing for or against, just saying that's probably the NFL's perspective. They didn't "take away" a home game from the 8 that have been in place since a 16 game league. They added a game and sometimes that extra game is home, sometimes away, and sometimes international for those teams that do it. They don't care what the US fans think, they want that global money. And, as someone pointed out, for all the NFL fans abroad who either relocated or just grew to like the game, they get the chance to see a live NFL game. As with any organization, if it makes money they'll do it. If it doesn't make money, they'll stop.

I mean whatever they, we or anyone, may think of the situation you shouldn’t ignore relatives like that. It wasn’t their decision to leave Ireland.
February 5Feb 5 Author Winds up that the initial story may be incorrect. Jeff Lurie stated the Eagles weren't giving up a home game, and the latest reports that it'll be a home game for the Rams in Australia in 2026. So maybe the Eagles won't be playing there after all - or if they do play there, maybe it's not against the Rams.
February 5Feb 5 I hate the international games, but I would salivate at the idea of the Cowboys and Chiefs from North Sentinel Island.

February 6Feb 6 So...it was premature to get worked up over a rumor about a game 2 years from now? Hmm.

So that means it will likely be a one of those two bye weeks after the game. Late October which means like Sunday midday here for 8pm Saturday if the dual daylight savings change has already happened Actually, the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 (which forbids telecasts outside of 75 miles of the home markets from 6:00 PM ET Friday to 11:59 PM ET Saturday) would forbid that. It would likely have to be a Saturday midnight ET broadcast here (Game would be 3:00 PM in Australia as in late October they are on Daylight time in Australia), though it is possible the NFL could get permission to do that in exchange for agreeing not to have games the Friday and Saturday of the first round of the College Football Playoff that would allow them to do it at say 9:00 PM ET (the law is mainly to protect high school football but most high schools that play on Saturday do so in the afternoon).

What the NFL should do is for those not playing an international; game have the 17th game be a neutral site game where both teams get half the tickets (i.e.: Jets-Giants at Met Life, Rams-Chargers at SoFi, Eagles-Steelers at Penn State). Could you imagine 108,000 fans at Penn State's Beaver Stadium for an Eagles-Steelers game with a pure half-and-half Eagles-Steelers crowd for that game?
