Interested to see if there's a consensus

Way too early I think. There’s some very interesting options out there but I think ultimately it’s going to be Patullo. I think Sirianni is going to push for him and at this point I think Sirianni has enough sway.

Probably will be. If they don't promote him, he will go to the Saints to be their OC. However, I disagree on the too early point. If they drag their feet, they might lose out on their preferred candidate. This is already late in the process and many coaches have filled out their staffs.

I think of the field you've posted there, it would be a weird decision to not give it Patullo.

The Rams could and would refuse to let us speak to LeFleur.

McCown and Johnson have no more experience than Patullo at OC and less knowledge of the players and environment so what's the argument to bring them in over him?

Dorsey couldn't run a decent offense with Josh Allen once he had to introduce more of his own stuff,

Byron Leftwich had success for 2 years with the last of Tom Brady's decent years, but when they had offensive line issues in his last year he couldn't adjust to save his life.

Reich is dragging a guy off his couch in the slight hope he'll recreate 2017 with an entirely different cast.

Because most staffs have been filled out, we are kind of scraping the bottom of the barrel. Hard to disagree with any of your points.

Nick Foles or Byron
Leftwich

I like Reich, but I do worry about the dynamics of him working with Sirianni. I mean, they have a close relationship, but it's got to be at least a bit awkward being the boss of someone who used to be your boss.

Reich has been through two Head Coach firings in 2 consecutive years with Indy and then Carolina. He's seasoned and mature.

He would be just fine working with Sirianni.

No no sorry I meant too early for Patullo. Though he’s been around a few years so actually I retract that.

Patullo is an obvious choice......unless he goes with Moore to New Orleans........then it's Nussmeier or Reich.

All I know is that if it's Patullo, we better not go back to the 2023 offense that had Sirianni's fingerprints all over it.  2023's offense was basically 2022's version that NFL defenses caught up to, defended well, and Siri/Johnson had no counters (remember all the crap about using the least amount of pre-snap motion, no answers for blitzes, etc).  If we go backwards with Patullo (i.e., really Sirianni), we'll be headed for another frustrating season.

Hopefully Siri actually learned something from Moore that he'll adopt.

He also was not a play caller

If the biggest knock on leftwich is not being able to adjust to offensive line issues, I think we have the necessary support for him. Might be a good fit.

You can't block people from OC interviews anymore, apparently they got rid of that rule in 2020.

https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl-teams-can-no-longer-block-assistant-coaches-from-interviewing-for-coordinator-positions-191317600.html#:~:text=The league announced on Tuesday, position in a front office.

Quote

The league announced on Tuesday that NFL teams are no longer able to block assistant coaches from interviewing for coordinator jobs with other teams. This rule applies to each team’s three coordinator spots (offensive, defensive and special teams) and a true assistant general manager position in a front office.

In the past, any team seeking to hire another club’s coach for a coordinator or AGM position could have its interview request denied. That stipulation of the NFL’s Anti-Tampering Policy is now gone.

The rule applies to high-level coaching and front-office positions. So as long as there is no dispute that the new team is offering a "bona fide” position (which is subject to review and approval by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell), there are no obstacles for a coach or scout to pursue career growth with another franchise.

This obviously both helps us and hurts us.

As for the OC pick, I'm actually in favor of someone fairly seasoned who's more of a short pass specialist. I want someone who will get on Hurts about getting the ball out on time more as part of his skillset. The thing abut Jalen is, I don't really think his skillset is necessarily elite at the moment, but it does have some things that I believe can be more or less elite equal with another tool or wo.

  • First, his ability to run with speed OR power.

This is obviously not ideal for a QB, but him having he ability to do this in rare situations where he needs to is helpful.

  • Secondly, his deep ball ability.

This is is good, a solid part of his skillset.

I think if you add a third aspect, the ability to throw timing routes like they're literally second nature to him - or put differently, allowing himself to use the scheme itself as a weapon more, that's enough change-ups where the skillset will be incredibly hard to stop, even when we eventually can no longer keep up the same kind of weaponry on offense that he's seeing right now, which is probably inevitable.

So if there's someone out there that will jump all over the staff to have Jalen improve at the short pass game, and ESPECIALLY integrating hot routes, we should jump all over them because that person will probably have us deep in the playoffs again if we can keep Zach Baun on defense.

As good as Hurts was this year, I want to see us get back and develop 2022 Hurts. I believe having a few years of the same OC/Playcaller would help. He’s never had any consistency.

Reich would therefore be my pick - experience and won’t get a HC role

Even if it's patullo, I'd still like Reich here as an Offensive Consultant.

I'll do it. I'm at a loose end for a bit. How hard can it be with Jalen, Saquon, AJ, Smitty, Philly G and that line?

'Guys, you know that thing you do? Just go do that. I'll be out back with a blunt and a beer. I got you.'

Considering most people hated nick and wanted hurts gone on this board ill trust the eagles on this one not the fans on this board

Exactly why I want a short passing game oriented OC.

Hey, I backed Nick up the whole time. And with Hurts, I mainly just want him to have the ability to throw on time for consistent stretches as a toolset. Would that make him perfect to me? No, but it'd make him good enough even when we start to bleed talent.

When we bleed talent is the key phase here.

Frank seems to be the "safe" choice but I'd be happy with McCown if he at least gave us 2+ years at least. Just worried he'd go at the first chance of a promotion after having a great year with us. We need to stop the revolving door

That’s the ideal situation.  Patullo as OC with Reich as a consultant.

I really have no idea, but I have a completely unfounded sense that Reich isn’t going to be willing or in it enough to dive into the full grind of a coordinator job again.  Special offensive consultant feels perfect.

Well, they’ll have to do that eventually anyway.  Barkley’s 2024 workload isn’t sustainable.

I almost…no, not almost…I don’t want to see Barkley with another 2,000 yard season next year.  Lighten the load so he can carry them again in the playoffs.

Teams can still block Offensive / Defensive / Special Teams Coordinators making lateral moves, the rule you're describing was brought in because teams were blocking position coaches from taking  interviews for other teams Co-ordinator jobs, it has a section specifically defining what a coordinator's role is to clarify the scope of the rule.
