Did not realize people were talking about poaching an active OC of a team, I kind of just assumed that person wasn't already at same level, that's my fault. I haven't seen anyone suggest that before except for outgoing coaching regimes so I didn't take the time to look. I'll own that, thanks for the correction!
February 13Feb 13 Darrell Bevell isn't the worst idea ever. Since he's from the Seahawks during the early Russell Wilson days when they also ran a designated 'running offense'. My only concern is that I'm not sure he has the quick game chops to further develop Jalen as a passer. On the bright side, he has a history of calling plays and on top of that, is 55, meaning he goes against the trend of young hires. Multiple time OC during the 2010s, current passing game coordinator for the Dolphins. Former QB, even worked with Brett Favre in the early 2000's. Might be a pretty decent shot honestly.
February 13Feb 13 The Sirianni - Patullo relationship is already beginning to reflect the Pederson - Press Taylor relationship. And we all know how that ended - not just here but later on in Jacksonville for Pederson and Taylor. Unless you are a Hall of Fame Head Coach like an Andy Reid, etc the modern NFL is much too complex to have less experienced coaches have their "buddies" become coordinators and so forth. Not because they can't make player/personnel decisions but simply because they will be overly biased and obviously emotional (Sirianni) when making those types of decisions. You can't have "GROUP THINK" within the highest levels of the coaching staff. You need individuals that will challenge and make each other better - not people that will just agree with each other. It rarely works out at the NFL level. You need coaches that hold each other accountable etc - and having two buddies as head coach and offensive coordinator - that likely won't happen - not because they wouldn't want it to - because it's human nature. They already are in "group think" mode so whenever there is a failure, mistake, etc they will just end up blaming themselves because they already know their next highest coach thinks exactly like them - so the issues do not get corrected, etc. We won the Super Bowl by bringing in Kellen Moore from the outside. OBVIOUSLY that is a winning formula and that's what we should do moving forward (There are exceptions to this rule in cases where the Head coach isn't (basically) best friends with the guy who us about to be promoted. BUT SIRIANNI AND PATULLO ARE two peas in a pod. Best friends within the coaching staff and would essentially form "group think" within the offensive strategies. And if we're winning - that's fine. But what happens if you hit a wall like we did last year after 11 games? If everyone is "blaming themselves" because they all think alike - they will collapse just like they did last season. You need OUTSIDE minds. People that can come in and think outside the "group think box" - make tweaks, etc - exactly what Kellen Moore did this past season. That said in terms of experienced guys: Frank Reich Byron Leftwich Doug Pederson Or a younger guy but with a brilliant offensive mind, who should be great with Hurts: Josh McCown Having someone from the outside vs "an internal buddy" could be the difference from our 2018 season (Barely made the playoffs thanks to Nick Foles needing to win 6 straight games to end the season) to the 2025 season we are about to approach. This team has all the talent in the world, on both sides of the ball - let's make sure we hire the best coaches for this team at this time. It's that simple.
February 13Feb 13 My top choice would be Mike LaFleur but I don't see that happening. Patullo with a Senior Assistant hired seems most likely
February 16Feb 16 I voted Reich and I hope he at least gets a call for an interview. That being said, it will probably be Patullo
