ManchesterEagle Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Had a really good season in 2023. Got injured at the start of last year so should be ready in 2025. Only 2026 and will be much cheaper than Sweat. DE is definitely a need and drafting at end of first isn’t ideal for getting an immediate contributor.
Cheesteakitis Posted February 18 Posted February 18 So I had to look up Koonce who plays for the Raiders.. basically he seems similar to Huff he had one year in 2023 that put him on the map then tore his ACL and missed all of 2024. I mean maybe it turns into a Baun type signing but I don’t see much to make me say wow we need this guy
Crazy Legs Posted February 18 Posted February 18 PFF projects Koonce's contract for two years worth $18.75 million per year with $20 million guaranteed. 1

Firstly - I wouldn’t go to those numbers. I suspect he will get less. Secondly any established pass rusher is likely to get 20 million plus. Sweat will get that. We aren’t going to find a consistent 10 sack a year guy for a reasonable price. Finally he is a much better run defender than Huff, so we shouldn’t have the same issues.

Cochis_Calhoun Posted February 20 Posted February 20 He's a bit of a risk coming off an ACL, for the right price I could see it, but I'd be surprised after being bitten in the ass by flashy one year production by Huff. I could see them taking a look at a guy like Ojulari on the Giants, he knows a lot of the defensive players from college and would be a cheap option for solid rotational rusher chipping in 6-7 sacks a year.

My sense with Huff is that he didn’t have the work ethic/discipline against the run and Fangio wouldn’t take that. I suspect he can still rush the passer. Koonce is solid against the run. He’s a risk but has big upside. Ojulari is an interesting shout as well. I can’t see them resigning Sweat. Smith is very good and Hunt is really promising, but unless Fangio/the Eagles genuinely think Huff can contribute in 2025, they can’t rely on what they have an a rookie.

Say we sign Ojulari in FA, draft time comes if Derrick Harmon is there at 32 I'd go DT in the 1st and hope to pick up a guy like Ashton Gillotte or Bradyn Swinson at 64. I think the pass rush would stand up alright. 1

Yeah I need to look at the players in a bit more detail, but I agree, if we get a DE in FA, whether it be Ojulari or Koonce, that really takes the pressure off drafting for need and I like the idea of adding another stud DT early.
UK_EaglesFan89 Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Thoughts on Bosa? Decent player but not sure he’s a good culture fit here to be honest.

Don’t like the idea… don’t know if it was an actual quote from him or not but I saw something this morning that quoted him as thinking he should be the highest paid De.

I think they have got that number wrong. I’d be interested around the 10 million per year mark.
