Pretty significant drop off in production after a 2,000 yard season. They definitely need to be better in the passing game and not rely on Barkley as much

Now what I would say is… Some of those were quite a while ago. Medical science and how the players are looked after and recover is different. I’m also assuming in the case of Henry and Davis they got hurt? To have only played 8 and 4 games suggests so. And so let’s hope Barkley can stay healthy.

But yes the reality is he’s not going to have such a big year. The chances he gets hurt are probably greater because of the wear on his body this year so the pass game needs to be better. Hopefully though with our OL there isn’t as big a drop off. The hope being that because our OL has been so good Barkley doesn’t take the usual punishment that RBs do.

I recall a few backs that got 1700-1800 yards that had a significant drop off as well.

Its more about how many carries it took to get them there usually running backs that didnt even get to the 2,000 yards but had well over 300 carries usually have a down year the following season. Not including playoffs Barkley had over 345 carries. That is a sheet ton of work for a back.

I do agree with you maybe with our o line he can still put together another solid year but, there is a reason no back has ever gotten 2 2,000 yard seasons. They really take there toll on a running back. I guess we will see. I just have some concern there. Hopefully its a bit more balanced and give Barkley a bit more of a  rest with whoever the 2nd back is.

Im like i sure hope they win a super bowl because they are killing Barkley for next season. Who knows though Barkley is so physically gifted maybe he becomes the first back ever to do it back to back and that one i dont think would ever get broken and Barkley would be sitting on top with that record alone

Obviously it's rare to get to 2000 yards in the first place. So doing it back to back will always be unlikely. There has been a long-standing argument validated by statistics that when a RB comes off a season with a huge workload, he tends to experience a significant drop-off the following season. However, like you, I kind of feel like if any player can break the trend, it's Barkley because of his dedication to preparation physically. Derrick Henry could very well still break 2000 for a second time. Both of these guys have that size that just wears down opponents and the speed to take it to the house and add bonus yards. They also get periods of rest during each game done in a more efficient way than in the "old days."
