Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman was found dead alongside his wife, classical pianist Betsy Arakawa, and their dog in their Santa Fe home on Wednesday afternoon.

Hackman was 95 at the time of his death and his wife 63. The office confirmed that foul play is not suspected as a factor in the deaths at this time, but the cause of death has not been determined.

Carbon monoxide leak?  R.I.P. - one of the best

I just saw this and yeah, given the dog was also dead, I'm guessing a CO leak too.

2 dogs were left alive.

Fire Department said it was safe to enter and there was no gas leak?

This is weird

I didn't realize he was 95.  So many good movies. Indeed, we lost a legend.

Yeah, I saw this earlier this morning and that was my thought. They said that there didn't appear to be 'foul play', so that would rule out murder/suicide.

Just saw another headline that says that they'd been dead 'for some time'. So it took a while for them to be found.

The bodies were found by two maintenance workers. Arakawa was lying on the bathroom floor. A prescription pill bottle was open on the countertop, with pills scattered nearby. Hackman was discovered in the mud room, adjacent to the kitchen, with his sunglasses at his side.

It appeared to the detective that both had fallen to the ground. A dead dog was also found in the bathroom closet, near Arakawa’s body. Two healthy dogs were also found on the property, one near Arakawa and the other running loose outdoors. The front door of the house was open, though there was no sign of forcible entry.

Sad, RIP. I didn't realize he was 95 wow. I just watched Unforgiven the other day, one of my favorites with him.

They are now calling the deaths suspicious.

If I had to guess, she poisoned him then killed herself with pills, spilled them and the dog ate the ones on the ground and died

The door being open is the odd part to me. Also sounds like he just collapsed based on his sunglasses being near his body. That feels like his wife coming home in a panic because she couldn’t reach him, found him dead and then swallowed a bunch of pills that the one dog also ate.

That's what my guess has been. Total guess, of course. She found him dead, couldn't go on without him, so she killed herself. That might be 'best case' though. The guess of her killing him then herself could be the case, too.

Whatever the case, it's sad all around.

The deaths are being labeled as "suspicious" by the sheriff's office.  I read somewhere that Hackman was the recipient of large royalties, and that there was an incentive for him to be dead.

I think it would be a little odd for her to kill him being 95, especially since I read she had him on a strict diet for years. Granted, killing anyone is odd in itself so who knows.

And yes, sad either way.

Yeah, I wouldn't think it's murder/suicide but you never know. It is odd that the dog was locked in the closet. I wonder what that's all about.

I saw this picture last night, had I not known that it was him, I'd never have been able to guess who the photo was of.

You know who I'd have guessed? Jonathan Banks. But only because there's a very slight resemblance, if I had guessed him and it turned out to be correct, I'd have been SHOCKED by how frail he looked.

Not so much a murder but a mercy killing.... Maybe he got a recent diagnosis or was in mental decline?

My Mrs. works in Senior Care.....I flat out told her, if my cognitive functions start going bye bye due to Alzheimer's or Dementia, please give me a bottle of pills and wash em down with a bottle of vodka and I'm good.  I've visited her at work and you have these fat lazy aids/nurses that are all standing around on their phones while the residents (whose families have to pay over 10,000 a month) are just left in their own filth with horrible care.

I worked in what was supposedly a "top" nursing home in the 90s when I was in high school and the nurses were terrible back then without cell phones.

Nursing home nursing is like the minor leagues of nursing jobs.... It draws the worst people.

A friend of mine who used to be an administrator at a facility said that there's like a Haitian nurse mob who gang up on new hires to get them to quit so they can hire more of their friends and family. There were certain floors that were 100% Haitian and they were all terrible nurses.
