NJWolverEagle11 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Jus saw on fs1 ticker. Thanks for your time here Slay. 2
T-1000 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 I've been a bigger fan of Slay than some over the years but this is the right move. He was solid this past season but had clearly fallen to being our CB2 after Quinyon and at 34 and getting banged up so much it was time to move on. I'm hoping they bring back Rodgers and have an open competition in camp between he and Ringo. 7
Aspiritfall Posted March 3 Posted March 3 If they don't bring him back on a team friendly deal I wish him nothing but the best... Thank you Slay! 3
ManchesterEagle Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Great player and great guy. He struggled at times here but until this season was always asked to travel with the best receiver. A lot of the top corners won’t do that. He had a really good year with Mitchell and DeJean locking up the other spots. He may have something left but he seemed to get hurt a lot last year and now does seem the right time. Let Rodgers/Ringo battle it out. 1
20dawk4life Posted March 3 Posted March 3 I’d rather have kept him and let him retire at the end of the season. He has said he wanted to finish his career here and creates a hole we didn’t have going into the offseason. 4
kiwinavega Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Been an excellent player for us. If we can bring him back team friendly to mentor the young guys, that's perfect. If not, he deserves a shot to be overpaid somewhere for his pension. 1

I think it has more to do with the 16 million he was due to be making this year and the over 4 million they save. 1
$erpentor Posted March 3 Posted March 3 right move at the right time as said before, good luck brethren 1

Vileborg Posted March 3 Posted March 3 These players only have so many years to earn. I'd love to have him back but would totally understand if he needs a Big Play Slay kind of payday. Just come back and retire here. Always a Philly champion immortalized in history with the Super Bowl LIX win. 2

Then, when he's done done, give him a halftime ceremony inducting him into the Eagles HoF. Everyone's a winner. 1

We dont know that slay didn’t have some part in this he had said that if the young guys were ready to fly he wasn’t going to hold them down just because he wanted to keep playing 1

Hes made over 100 mil in his career, so I think hell be ok Good luck to him, ive been pretty harsh to him in the past, he played pretty well this year but not 16 million well. 1

proveagle Posted March 4 Posted March 4 They can still bring him back on a new contract that isn't 16m. I hope he signs for a BG type deal for 1more and retires.
BayAreaLennie Posted March 4 Posted March 4 The Eagles front office almost certainly approached him to try to negotiate a lower number for next year, and he obviously declined and told them he would rather test the free agent market. Once he does, you never know, he might prefer coming back at a lower figure. Either way, he had some great years here and is a Super Bowl champion.
hukdonfoniks Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Technically the Lions have a lot of cap space, but in 2026 their cap situation is going to be terrible. And they can technically start to talk extensions with guys like Jameson Williams and Hutchinson. Not sure Detroit will want/be able to afford Slay at a number that we can't match. I like the odds of him winding up back here next year. 2
time2rock Posted March 4 Posted March 4 11 hours ago, Lman said: How much cap space does this give us? $4.3M. But since they are using a June 1 designation, we don't realize the cap savings until then ... we'll need to carry his full $13.8M cap hit until that time. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2025/03/03/darius-slay-philadelphia-eagles-released-reports/81163251007/#:~:text=Philadelphia plans to designate Slay,on top of the NFL.
