Mike030270 Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Hopefully it's just adding a bunch of incentives or something. Don't like extending a RB into his 30s
John Blutarski Posted March 4 Posted March 4 I just heard on 97.5 the extension will free up $6.7M in cap space this year. Not sure if accurate or not since we can't see the contract details yet. 7

MagicMoment Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Well deserved in my opinion. We owe last year all to him and I really don’t care how it will affect the team this next year, the Eagles are 2-time champions because of him.

kiwinavega Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Give the man his bag. Deserves every cent of it. Hell, give him the freedom of Philadelphia and first crack at the best looking girl in town if that's what it takes to keep him happy and productive. LOVE the move. 1

Reward the player, and simultaneously help the team’s cap situation.
EaglesAddict Posted March 4 Posted March 4 I'd have to imagine this opens up cap space for this year and presents as a well-deserved reward to a player who had a great season. Combined with cutting Slay and Bradberry with post-june 1 designations, Howie opening up some cap space...probably for Baun, Jurgens and......Myles Garrett 2

It was reported by Jeff Skversky that it freed up $6.7M but I think he got the wrong cap number. Looks like it’ll free up about $500k (cap hit reduced from $7.3M to $6.8M. 1
VaBeach_Eagle Posted March 4 Posted March 4 With the recent players cut/released and now this, maybe we're freeing up cap space for a blockbuster trade? Let's see, any blockbuster names out there that might want to be traded?

I absolutely love the man but wonder if they are fully tied through to the end of his age 31 year or if Howie has left himself some wiggle room given the typical RB age related decline you see. A few factors that may have helped are is that Barkley is just a different animal, his lighter 2020 and 2021 season workloads and Dereck Henry just went out and had a dominant season at that age. 1

Yes, but blockbusters are a lot of fun. Though, I did still owe Blockbusters for a late fee on Groundhog Day... which if we did a Blockbuster Trade, the entire NFL would think it was "Groundhog Day" all over again...
PoconoDon Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Pete Prisco says more guaranteed money for Saquon spread over the 4 years while creating cap space now. If true and correct, it sounds like a win/win.

He's more than earned our trust. If he pulls that trigger, it's most likely the right move. If he doesn't, it most likely wouldn't be the right move. But I also look at it from a standpoint of board traffic and potential board revenue that it can bring... 1
kiwinavega Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Fair enough, and you would deserve it for all you do for us. Thank you, most sincerely.
