UK_EaglesFan89 Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Makes no sense! Becton is definitely gone and I’m really not sure Green is better than Steen. This has not been a good start to FA.

MagicMoment Posted March 11 Posted March 11 I’d be lying if I said I felt great about this free agency. We’ve lost a few big names that I wasn’t expecting to be gone. Maybe this is Howie’s way of staying ahead of the SB win and not keeping older players but paying cheap young players.
Mat Posted March 11 Author Posted March 11 This is just a weird trade. Becton was the one I think they would have been happy to let walk and get his payday, but Steen seemed like the obvious replacement there. I really didn't expect them to trade CJ at all
Loosechange Posted March 11 Posted March 11 I didn't see this coming at all. I understand that they have a plan that we don't see, but you have to watch how much you change a locker room also.
Vlad67 Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Meh...Stoutland Made Becton work, he will make Green work...and if we traded CJGJ that means Fangio conidered him expendable and in Fangio we trust right? 2
b_west3 Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Can't wait to see Sydney Brown get toasted next season...assuming he's even healthy enough to play. 1
MrFadedGlory Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Lurie wants to become the Yankees of the NFL and players like CJGJ need to learn to keep their yaps shut. this social media and podcast sheet does not make Jeff a happy man. cj gone slay gone AJ potentially traded??? Act like Barkley or don’t let the door hit you in the arse
birdman#12 Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Stoutland could turn Green into a pro bowler........but CJGJ is a leader and brings loads of attitude to the defense......... That's 5 guys that were big contributors on this defense. I have to wonder how much input Stoutland and Fangio had in this trade. But usually a trade like this is followed by something by Howie that nobody saw coming.....
metal Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Huh, okay then. Definitely didn't see a CJ trade coming. I guess this means Becton is gone. He probably priced himself out of what the Eagles were willing to pay. Stoutland had to sign off on this so I trust his judgement, although Green will be a FA after 2025 so who knows what will happen with him. 1
manz2821 Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Awful. CJGJ bought a lot of energy and was a dawg in the secondary. Do not like this trade at all. 😞 5
PhillyPhreak24 Posted March 11 Posted March 11 This one is surprising. CJ is young and a good player. 12 INTs in two seasons as an Eagle. It's not easy to get that kind of production in the secondary. Perhaps they feel good about Sydney moving into a starting role, but he doesn't have the kind of range and versatility that CJ has. Not a fan of this one. 1
Mike030270 Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Just because it worked with Becton does not mean it'll work again Stout isn't perfect and he has made bad choices before 2
Swimm Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Huge hole at safety and what's on the roster is not starting material.
EazyEaglez Posted March 11 Posted March 11 This one is a bit of a shocker. Not sure what the plan is, but the number one defense is getting dismantled. 1
ManuelTheAnswer Posted March 11 Posted March 11 I don't like it right now, but we'll see what happens next. 1
NOTW Posted March 11 Posted March 11 https://www.nbcsportsphiladelphia.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/cj-gardner-johnson-kenyon-green-trade-free-agency-texans/653665/ A big part of this trade is giving former third-round pick Sydney Brown a chance to compete for a starting spot next to Reed Blankenship in the Eagles’ defense. Brown was a third-round pick out of Illinois in 2023 but hasn’t yet carved out a significant role on defense. He showed some promise as a rookie but tore his ACL in the regular season finale and missed the start of 2024 before bing buried on the depth chart. In addition to Brown, the Eagles also still have Tristin McCollum and Lewis Cine on the roster. There are also several months before the opener, so it’s possible the Eagles could add another safety. And Blankenship, 26, is entering the final year of his contract. So an extension could be coming for the now-veteran starter. Green, 23, was the No. 15 overall pick out of Texas A&M back in the 2022 draft but his NFL career hasn’t gone to plan. After starting 14 games as a rookie, with plenty of struggles, Green missed the entire 2023 season with a shoulder injury. In 2024, Green was benched in October. He ended up playing in 12 games with 9 starts. Last season, ProFootballFocus ranked him as the No. 76 best guard in the NFL out of 77 qualified players. Green gave up 47 pressures and 4 sacks last season. He appears to be another reclamation for highly regarded offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland. Green has played only left guard in the NFL and the Eagles have Pro Bowler Landon Dickerson at that spot. So perhaps we see him get some time at right guard, where there’s an opening. The Eagles’ 2024 starter, Mekhi Becton, is a free agent. The Eagles also have 2023 third-round pick Tyler Steen on the roster.
rrfierce Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Weird trade - don’t get it. CJ had a decent season, and definitely brought the juice back on defence. seems to remember last time we traded him things didn’t go well…. 1 2
eagle45 Posted March 11 Posted March 11 This trade hits hard and rough because it sort of confirms the loss of two starters at once…CJGJ (obviously) and Becton. Obviously, they think Brown and Green can replace CJGJ and Becton for better cost control.
Uscg-green Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Why? We regretted losing him last time. For a first round bust guard. 🤷 3

I remember when CJ got ejected and these dudes got burned against the Redskins. Then they got burned in the superbowl the second they touched the field.. When given a chance the defense got burned. 1
Infam Posted March 11 Posted March 11 First move I really don't like. CJGJs ability to get into their head is super underrated. 2 1
