He’s been with what… 5 teams in 6/7 years or something? Drafted by the Saints, played there for a couple of years. We then brought him in, then let him go to Detroit, then brought him back, then traded him to Houston.
June 5Jun 5 CJGJ was a great fit here. Yeah, he's a little hot headed, but you know he's gonna give you everything he's got. I'm glad he was able to come back to Philly and get it done last season. I wish him well

He only played two seasons for us and we advanced to the Super Bowl each time. He also contributed 12 INTs and a FF during those two seasons. He had 4 penalties called on him as an Eagle, with two being in that Washington game. We saw the middle of the field exposed that day when he was ejected because of a BS flag in the 3rd quarter. So I don't really agree with the claim: "He was always a locker room distraction/nightmare just waiting to happen." There's no evidence to support that claim. He was always a trash talker and that's all he's doing now as a player on another team. He never said anything bad or caused problems for his "current" teams.
June 5Jun 5 I can only imagine there was more going on behind the scenes that we don't know about because he was a good player for us both years he was here, and the cap savings we got for trading him were negligible. Now we're heading into the season with a huge question mark opposite Blankenship. Definitely my least favorite offseason move.

I know you like dying on exactly this sort of hill but I think too often he was trying for the highlight reel play rather than playing his assignment, and while I think winning the big one buys a whole lot of forgiveness, I suspect that's why Fangio didn't stamp his feet to keep him around. He was good, but not that good.

We don't know definitively yet, but I suspect we downgraded with this move. I do know our secondary went from being good in 2022 to atrocious in 2023 when we lost him, and to being elite when we got him back (though obviously the additions of Mitchell and Dejean factored into that).

CJGJ wasn't a perfect player. He often opted for the big hit over the sure tackle and has a higher than desirable missed tackle percentage for his career. I'm not overly concerned with safeties getting beat on occasion. It's going to happen from time to time. What I do like about players like CJGJ is their ability to make plays and fire up teammates. IMO, he was an above average safety whose contract matched his contribution.I'm not opposed to the trade to ditch his contract. I was surprised when I initially read the report. But keeping Baun was the big off-season priority and investing good money at ILB means we needed to go lighter (contract-wise) at another position. So I do agree with Fangio's statement 100% ---- that CJGJ was a good player and that the decision to move him was contract related. I'd also like to point out that Fangio keeps reminding media members that Tristin McCollum is also in the competition to fill the opening. A lot of fans seem to be writing Tristin off, but I don't hear Vic bringing up Cine in the interviews.
June 7Jun 7 McCollum hasn’t showed much in games to tell us he’s the guy. In fact he’s looked pretty poor.

June 9Jun 9 "People say, 'He's a hazard, he's this, he's that.' I never been no hazard, bro. They got no real issues on me. That black ball ain't going to work on me, because I got me a ring. I got me one. I got three more championships in me. I'm probably going to win the next three. I'm going to get me another Super Bowl this year. Just watch."If we are keeping track (in order):... I ... me ... me ... I ... me ... I ...me ... I ... me ... I'm ... me

June 10Jun 10 McCollum actually had a couple 4th down PBUs that weren't in garbage time last season. Vic likes McCollum because he's a developmental prospect that is actually developing. He saw his first action in the season finale in 2023:He followed that up with a very strong preseason showing last year. I've mentioned it in other threads, but my expectation is for McCollum to be the backup for Blankenship. I believe the Eagles want to see Brown and Makuba battle it out for the other starting safety gig. I just find it interesting that Fangio keeps name dropping Tristin without prompts when talking about the safety competition.
June 16Jun 16 CJGJ is a fairly undisciplined football player who took too many chances out there and freelanced way too much, but I do think his heart helped galvanize this defense. Overall the Eagles did what they felt they needed to do, but I worry they may have committed too soon to giving up on this relationship. With that being the case, I am excited to see what some of these young guys can do out there given the chance. I hope Brown can finally show some of that potential we noticed before that injury.
June 16Jun 16 Have to believe we would not have dealt CJGJ without having Fangio's blessing to do so first (Vic may even have initiated the conversation). And all the "for cap purposes" ... saying that likely is just to avoid throwing a player under the bus on his way out.

So they used a fairly logical explanation of the cap space which fits with the whole messaging and approach this offseason. And they likely did it to avoid throwing him under the bus… and then he’s happy to run his mouth still.

June 17Jun 17 We know deep down he loves Philly but some people lash out when hurt, and he's one of them, lol. I still wish he was here
